There has been some controversy about this in the press, and I tend to go for the JPAC angle. It hasn't been proved that the remains were Flynn's, just some half-baked statement that the teeth looked like mid-20th century Western dental work, so it could have been any Cambodian who spent a bit of time in France for instance.
Any site like this needs to be treated like an archaeological dig, and obviously this one wasn't, with back-hoes and amateur digging employed. The only eye-witness that they apparently used died of dysentery before the dig was completed, since this is an easily treated disease this leads one to believe there was grand incompetence involved.
Although it was apparently done with Sean's half-sisters approval, and she made understandable comments about not wanting or being capable of waiting another 40 years, I have serious doubts about the whole thing.
Today in the Daily, 29 year old Australian Dave McMillan, who conducted the dig along with 60 year old Brit Keith Rotheram, commented on Carl Robinson's statements about the "find." Carl Robinson was an AP photographer in the 60's and Sean Flynn was the best man at his wedding in Saigon.
So, McMillan says that Mr. Robinson is misinformed, and knows nothing about the dig other than speculation, and the "vexatious ramblings" of the media and the "garbage that Tim Page has told him."
Sean Flynn's Exhumation.

let the dead bury the dead, as someone once opined. its all a precious dust-up between fellow travellers, i dont give a shit.DNA will soon put paid to the bickering --which is sadly reminiscent of Vietnamese-era dissension. the only bodies that count are those of viet incursionists...have you been to their cemetery near phnom penh?--it could do with some funding to spruce it up... happy easter!

Sorry sonsan but i have been to the sites that page wrote about.
i have been into the old michelin rubber plantation and found the village where page claimed sean was held.
i have met the old woman who describes flynn and stone and says that she gave flynn ganga.
the villagers talked of several expeditions looking for remains with trucks and choppers.
i have read all there is to read about missing journos in cambodia.
i do remember when the journos were snatched back in the early seventies
i have been to kratie and looked for the site there that zalin grant claims was a prison for journos.
i have been to the wat near angasoam where journos were murdered after capture.
i did name my son sean after flynn nearly 30 years ago.
i do have all the books as well.
i corresponded with page and met him here and found him disappointing.
all power to the amateur diggers i say-page has found bugger all.
i believe that he is jealous.
theres no book in it if someone else finds flynn.
i will be meeting with the rotheram character in snooky at new year I hope.
have you taken any interest in missing journos son san?

For once, Latham is spot on, there is nothing more tedious than journalists writing about other journalists. No matter how intriguing the 28-year-old Sean Flynn was - what is the end result? All of a sudden the world is fascinated with the plight of Vietnam War era journos, and therefore Cambodia? Does nobody give a shit about history anymore? What is the motivation for them too? We. the older generation, says that it is essential, but is it?
Based on what I read of the article they had already contacted to JPAC who told them that it wasn't a priority for this year as the bodies weren't military so the family gave the go ahead to the two guys to proceed.hanky wrote:Although it was apparently done with Sean's half-sisters approval, and she made understandable comments about not wanting or being capable of waiting another 40 years, I have serious doubts about the whole thing."
Understandably friends of Flynn, Stone and the other missing journalists have their concerns about how the dig was conducted but they are going mainly on details given to them by the often unreliable Cambodian and British media so it is hard to say if was done properly or not yet.

Spoke to rotheram today and will be meeting him over new year in snooky.
had to love andy brouwers blog where page claims that these interlopers had the remains for two weeks and tried to sell their story.
how dare they?
does one need a licence to sell a story-i dont think so.
page is envious and maybe broke.
all power to the boys, arent they behaving exactly like the silly young journos in the vietnam war era?
if there is a story there-sell it to the highest bidder of course!
