In the market for some Democratic Kampuchea currency...
At the Russian Market on the weekend, I found a series of the notes that were printed but never issued during DK. Couldn't get the vendor down below $28 for the series, so I am thinking that they were real.
Does anyone know about these notes? Especially their value?

There are a few on eBay. I doubt they sell very often. On a related note, does anyone remember that guy that attempted to auction off Pol Pot's Mercedes on eBay a couple years ago? Did it actually get sold?Dengchao wrote:At the Russian Market on the weekend, I found a series of the notes that were printed but never issued during DK. Here's the last info I found on Pol Pot's Mercedes. KiR doesn't like when we mention this site though.

Yeah, the links are all screwed up on that site... Anyway, here's a video from a Channel Four documentary:gavinmac wrote:Here's the last info I found on Pol Pot's Mercedes. KiR doesn't like when we mention this site though.

Obviously, the guy has read GM's thread about keeping financial matters secret from your Khmer wife.
They sell the complete series of notes at the airport, in monument books (they're at the counter).. And at the killing fields "souvenir shop" at Choeung Ek as well. Don't know what they charge. Don't think they're worth much.. They seem to sell them everywhere.

Yeah, I had quite a good look at them under the light. There were no watermarks on them. There were serial numbers however.jimbob wrote:I always thought they were fakes.
Much of the antiques at Russian Market's specialist stores are reproductions/replicas although there are some genuine items if you know what you are looking for.

The sets I have seen haven't been complete, most of the set is genuine but a couple of the bills that are rarer are obvious copies. Anyway they aren't worth much, certainly not $28, they were selling for around $10 a set last time I noticed.
What is very valuable is money from the Khmer Rouge zone around Anlong Veng in the 90s. The foreign expert they brought in to help make the notes was, not too surprisingly, executed straight afterward.

Who Gives a Fuck?
Thanks mate, had absolutely no idea about the existence of these notes.
I am not a note collector, more looking at them for the historical interest. Just don't want to pay too much for what will essentially be a relic collecting dust.
What is with these idiots who come in thinking they will be mates with the KR? Just been reading about that fool Malcom Caldwell in the Bayon monthly...
