Highway 8, Prey Veng
Show me a camera that delivers raw files like that and I'd probably buy it. More than I'd normally push the colour but it works for me in this case.
Tweaked colour and highlights in lightroom and some work on the cloud intensity in Nik Color fx 4. Not HDR. Well, not a multi shot stacked tone mapped hdr.
Edit. Ha. Just took a look at these on the work pc. Colour is pushed way over my normal cringe threshold. Time to calibrate the old edit monitor.
he is the photographer, an this is how he wants to show HIS photo.
Unless he is asking for advice on how he post processed it.
Post some photos you took

here are a few of the pics I snapped last month... I am just now trying to get to grips with my new canon 600D, I am by no means a photograper, but am trying to get into it more as a hobby...
along the Riverside.. the chaps smile in spite of it all was awesome...
at Wat Phnom, this fella was chilling just outside the Pagoda..
at the pagoda not far from Independence.. a great face.
In the Siem Reap night market..
In front of the Palace.. the light was fantastic
A view from the TukTuk..
A funky dude in BKK, loved the hat.
Like I said.. I am just Learning the art/craft of capturing a decent image.. any tips/critique/comments welcome

Thanks for the feedback fella! I agree totally.. I tend to over-compensate in post to make up for the shortfall in ability, I am getting better though, as I learn and progress, more is done "in camera" and less and less during the post processing.Phuket2006 wrote:Charlie;

I much prefer taking pictures of people, its just I am way too English.. I hate to intrude on others lives and miss a lot of opportunities for great pictures.. I also think that its something that cannot be taught (the getting in peoples faces bit) I just need to bite the bullet and impose for a few seconds.. some people may actually like their photo being taken.
thanks again.

Great pics by all of you, though I aree y'all need to tone down the effects. It works in some pictures (the weaving hands one and maybe one or two scenery pics, for example), but looks too artificial in most others. I love the black and white face C30. I remember reading an interview with a Russian street painter. He said he preferred painting men, because women "only want to look pretty. They want you to make them look nice. But men's faces have character and are more interesting to paint". I think the same applies to old women, because they simply don't give a shit anymore. Older people make great subjects though. Seems like you can see all their life's experiences, all their ups and downs in every wrinkle.

when i taught photograph in Mexico at art school, i told my students to not spend $$ on equipment but to buy photo books and look at others work
I recommend all that tend to overuse post processing to look at the work done PRE Digital.
I studied under Franz Berko in Aspen and shot for years there, but its the streets of cities i feel more comfortable,I LOVE shooting people.
One of my fav today photographers is Steve McCurry's .Always felt he got my job http://stevemccurry.wordpress.com/author/stevemccurry/
Robert Capa once said, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough"

To professional photographers and advanced skilled photographers, what is your opinion on post-processing?
People usually want "authenticity" but when editing and post processing is used afterwards, doesn't it "cheat" on that quest for authenticity?
I'm not a professional or even hobbyist artist, but a viewer and consumer of arts and I'm curious to know what your opinion is.

my views are know and i have and do make $$ with my work.
post processing should be used conservatively to enhance the photo, same what you would do in the darkroom , not to alter the photo
The digital age with lightroom and photoshop ( an other software, but i think Adobe is the best software out there) makes it so dam easy to go overboard.
I want my photos to reproduce what my eye sees and this is what 99% of clients want.
You can see some of my work in my sig file
BUT at the end of the day each photographer decides what he wants his photo to show.
PS you should NEVER do in camera processing but shoot raw ( i shoot Raw & Basic) so u have full control of the outcome not give that up to the camera to decide.

Crikey, and you taught photography Phuket2006!!!
The poor damn students.
For a professional it bollocks. Someone had to call it!
Kennzo knocks your crap into touch, go away and learn a bit more before you voice off.
Damn, its amateur hour!!!
I guess when you put "my views are know and i have and do make $$ with my work." It means you charge 2 dollars a picture!
And thats over priced.

Rant about self indulgent arses over!
Cheers Ukky http://www.markfollon.com ( I might not be good but at least I am professional)
(check his mickey mouse site out http://phuket.zenfolio.com/ and see if I am just blowing wind or not, there are some damn good pics in this thread, none by the "teacher" though)

Ukky, I had a look at both, and I am a total amateur, but I prefer Phuket's stuff, mostly.
Photography, like music, is very subjective.
Photography, like music, is very subjective.
ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
Thats fine by me, but there are some good pics on here and Phukets are not.
Mine have nothing to do with Cambodia( I added my link as way of credibility not contest) I dont publish personal items but if I went to his collage I would want to take better pictures than my mum can take.
Did you take a look at the photographer he is comparing himself too though
http://stevemccurry.wordpress.com/author/stevemccurry/
that is a location photographer, and a damn good one, colour, composition, dramatic. Do you see where I am coming from?
my stuff is studio based and purely commercial, not editorial. But it does qualify me to comment on content.
And Vlad there are people that like Abba, so where does that leave the rest of the reasonable world?
