Sorry about that. We had been receiving a number of complaints about the over usage of smilies within posts, so we now have a limit of three.khmerhit wrote:

Complaints about too many smileys??????
Pathetic people with horrible lives with noting to do but complain.

Seconded, we used to enjoy posting long pages with thousands of smileys until this crap rule came along.LaudJohn wrote:Some dickheads need to get a life.Sambo wrote:[We had been receiving a number of complaints about the over usage of smilies within posts, so we now have a limit of three.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I agree with the new rule. All that yellow ink being used for smilies was polluting the planet.

Take it easy, LJ. There weren't any formal complaints. It was more that myself and at least one of the other mods were getting a bit bored of seeing nonsensical posts with more emoticons than words/thoughts. Also, if you take a look through Boner's 440 awards thread, you will see several people pointing this out in the 'most annoying' category.

So there were no actual complaints like you claimed?Sambo wrote:Take it easy, LJ. There weren't any formal complaints. It was more that myself and at least one of the other mods were getting a bit bored of seeing nonsensical posts with more emoticons than words/thoughts.
You just blamed others for Machivellian decisions rather than take responsibility for your own decision and having the balls/guts/fortitude to state that you decided to impose this emoticon restriction because you and one other mod was a bit bored (as is your right).
Ok
Then I will rephrase my earlier comments.
Some of the administrators need to get a life and also take responsiility for their own decisions rather than try to blame unamed "others" who in reality do not exist.
I was not saying that I objected to the restriction on emoticions, I hardly ever use them, but I was expressing my disgust at others who complain about such minor things that to my mind makes them purile, petty, pedants, lacking in any sense of decency or self worth to state in public what they say behind someone back.
Thankfully you have clarified that it is not the posters as a whole who are like this but yourself and another mod.
I now have renewed some of my respect for the posting fraternity as a whole.
my respect for the mods/admins however......

Well, that's a worry. What are you going to post about once you've removed your nose from Lord Playboy's ass? I suppose you could always revert back to your Koastal-is-gay-not-that-there's-anything-wrong-with-that routine.LaudJohn wrote:my respect for the mods/admins however......
These sorta look like complaints:You just blamed others for Machivellian decisions rather than take responsibility for your own decision and having the balls/guts/fortitude to state that you decided to impose this emoticon restriction because you and one other mod was a bit bored (as is your right).

Or perhaps this one with some context:Cable Guy wrote:Most Annoying: Khmerhit (sorry Holmes, those emoticons drive me round the fucking bend).
I suspect the mods were just trying to spare one poor bastard's feelings, you insensitive clod.

Listen, Sambo said we received complaints. We did. Sambo said we didn't receive any "formal complaints." We didn't. As far as I'm aware, there were no PMs or formal complaints using the red exclamation point complaint mechanism, because only total crybabies use that feature anyway.LaudJohn wrote: So there were no actual complaints like you claimed?
The complaints we received were in the form of a number of posts last year complaining about Khmerhit's use of emoticons and asking Khmerhit to stop overusing emoticons. As you know, he had a tendency to make posts that said virtually nothing at all, followed by 10-20 emoticons. He kept at it, even though people were telling him that it was annoying by posting things like this:
Captain Bonez wrote:khmerit, the emoticons, we get it, you know how to use them
dv8inpp wrote:I rarely read signatures as they are boring and don't change very often, I also don't look at the avatars and find the large number of emoticons very annoying.
vladimir wrote: I think at some stage KiR is going to have to limit the number of emoticons one can use.
shizzle wrote:Perhaps if you eased up on the emoticons... Bitches don't dig that.
Captain Bonez launched a poll late last year and asked readers to vote on the most annoying poster. The winner (or loser) was Khmerhit. The reason that people gave for voting for him as the most annoying poster on the forum (even beating out Vladimir) was his overuse of emoticons.
So we took action to remedy a situation that the readers of the forum said was annoying to them. All forums limit annoying activities by indidivual posters for the benefit of others, like banning posts in all caps, excessive vulgarity, obscene avatars, etc.
We started by just editing Khmerhit's posts and removing the emoticons and leaving messages saying "overuse of emoticons removed by mods." We did this a lot. Most people would get the fucking hint. He didn't.
So then Sambo quite sensibly limited the emoticons to three, which completely resolves the problem, without having to ban Khmerhit or anything like that. It was a perfectly reasonable and measured response to something that was annoying numerous posters. There is no basis whatsoever for you to complain about this being a Macchiavellian exercise of admin power or whatever else you are whinging about.
