The 38-year-old Swede Robert Orjan Elovsson has been arrested in Indonesia after he tried to smuggle 6.5 kg methamphetamine in the country. The police took him to the International Airport Sukarno-Hatta in Jakarta where he arrived with his girlfriend, the Thai 22-year-old Narawadee Phothijam.
Indonesia is generally considered to have world's toughest drug laws and judges are regularly out death penalty for trafficking in large quantities. Death penalties are enforced now, even after a couple of years. They use the firing squad of twelve men, the prisoner tied to a wooden pole.
According to The Jakarta Post arrived at the couple with Qatar Airways from Doha on Saturday and had dope in two specially constructed suitcases. Metaamfetaminet, also known as "ice", is said to be worth approximately seven million. The couple have said they would get the equivalent of 14 000 kronor each to smuggle the drugs into Indonesia.
Customs at the airport has worked with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in the case and that led to the conclusion that also the recipient of the drug cargo could be seized later in a hotel in Kemang, in the south of Jakarta. It was a 38-year-old Nigerian man, known as Guambee.
According to information provided to the Indonesian media is Elovsson working as a DJ and his girlfriend Narawadee said to be "sexy dancer" on various night clubs in Vietnam.
