I met Snow to talk to a few times over a decade ago, just before and just after I moved here to live and got the impression he was a genuinely nice guy. After that I didn't really mix in the same social circles, only ever saw him sporadically and never even got to his bar (more fool me), but on the rare occasions I did see him (sometimes on the street), he remembered me and would make a point of coming over and saying a very friendly hello with his big toothy smile . He's actually the only famous expat I've never heard nobody say a bad word about ever.

I would have to agree with KIR's statement.
But here's an interesting / morbid thought: of the 30 or so people (expats not tourist or short termers)i met over the 1st six months( late 1997) of my coming here. 14 are dead from various means(including murder, OD, suicides, bike crashes), 4 went mad and got sectioned and 5 went stupid either through drugs or head trauma. Most of the rest had a kid and took them back to their home country (after they realized they just was no real alternative)sometimes with and sometimes without the missus.
Who's left?

Snow Doesn't Fall in Australia
By James Welsh
Well-known Phnom Penh bar owner Ian Woodford, better known as Snow to his customers, said yesterday that news of his death in Australia had been greatly exaggerated.
False rumors accompanied by short epitaphs and eulogies to Snow, the former owner of Maxine's bar, which was situated on the Chroy Changva peninsula and was a site of pilgrimage for those wanting to see the sun set over Phnom Penh's skyline, began circulating on social media sites and blogs early last week.
Ï'm sitting on a balcony listening to INXS on a new sounds system, sipping wine and looking at the sun set over Sydney, mate," said Mr. Woodford, who turns 54 on Sunday.
