Whaddaya mean 'clarification'? Research, eh? Well alright then.
I've just tried to open an account with ANZ twice in the last few days. First time I stormed off assuming the asswipe who dealt with me didn't know his ass from his elbow and was giving me the wrong information. Today I returned and insisted on talking to the manager.
So I'm shown their brochure and the printed information states that to open an account you need to deposit $50, and you need to keep a $50 balance to avoid incurring bank charges. Except that in both cases the $50 is lightly scribbled out in blue biro and beneath is written $500.
In other words, to open a personal account you need to deposit and keep $500 in the account. Lots of lovely free interest fro the bank, while they treat personal customers with contempt.
But here's why I'm posting: it reminded me of why I cancelled my ANZ account of 5 years last year in the first place. They had had a policy of keeping a minimum balance of $20 to benefit from free banking, and suddenly they upped the minimum to $50 WITHOUT INFORMING ANYONE. So the first customers knew of the new policy was when they suddenly found charges had been deducted from their accounts.
So my question is, have ANZ done this again? Have they increased their minimum balance from $50 to $500 this month without informing their customers? Those of you who have a personal account with ANZ had better check this PDQ before you find yourself fucked over. And when you've done that, if I were you, I'd close the account and find another bank because those conditions are absolutely outrageous. Cnuts, I'm telling you.

I don't know, I cancelled when they suddenly upped it to 50 without telling me
I've never thought of rejoining them.

$5 charge now to withdraw from a foreign account at their ATMs, iirc - do they think there's no other option?

andy, yes, I meant I wanted details. Thanks. I had hassles years ago when trying to open an account. They lost my forms and called me to say I had to come in again. I told them to suck a cabbage.I went instead to CPB, none of this crap there. There seems to be a growing trend in this city/ country for people just to do things like this/ charge outrageous prices and then justify it (when they do bother) with statements like: ' everything is so expensive now' , or 'You'd pay the same in New York', or ' you're a cheap charlie'.
But to be honest, most bankers in any country are immoral shits, I think even lawyers have better social status now.

It's not like I wanted to rejoin, but my new employers pay salaries into ANZ accounts so I was told I had to open one. They are now fully informed of these developments and have agreed to pay me in cash, so I'm sorted now. This is a warning to others.
Vlad - yes, I've been fucked over by Foreign Trader Bank who lied to me over an account I had with them. But I think ANZ customers need to be informed of that bank's policies and its charges, especially since the bank itself has no intention of communicating this information to its own customers.

andy, I think if you can, try and copy/ post this link in essential information. I enjoy seeing customers screwing banks, nice role reversal.

Typically, if a company deposits ur pay in a certain bank, they already have some sort of special worked out for u both. Usually u get advantages, like no minimum balance requirement or no opening amount required.... That sounds silly....

Yes, for ANZ the company have to have a 'Payroll' account to do that. This company has a 'Business account'. The reasons and details are not my business or concern but I assume that the payroll account costs the company and maybe when the deal was $50 it was no great inconvenience to employees to open a personal account. I assume - and I told the wankerbankerbitch to her face in true Cambod stylee, that the bank is only interested in business accounts and wants individual customers to fuck off.

I've never liked that bank.
It really surprises me that they operate in such a manner, because in Australia/NZ they'd be on their knees as a result of the public backlash. Maybe an article needs to be submitted to an Oz newspaper to shake them up a bit.
