I.O.D. - pro bono lawyer
A friend of mine, Geoffrey, who is elderly and is already in bad health, slipped and fell in the class room at the university he works/worked for on 6th instant. He broke his arm and put his back out badly. The 'prestigious' educational institution has so far failed to assist him in any way, despite assurances made by his supervisor (which obviously came to naught). He is unable to work now because of this injury and I don't know when he will be able to return to work. He needs acat scan and a physio, he cannot sleep at night because of the pain.
Is there a lawyer out there who would take up the case on a pro-bono basis?
I was pretty sure all employees had, by law, to have insurance cover for things like this.
Department of Labour?
Advice, anyone?

Impoverished foreigner suing rich Khmer? Geoffrey has two hopes of getting financial compensation - no hope and Bob Hope.vladimir wrote:A friend of mine, Geoffrey, who is elderly and is already in bad health, slipped and fell in the class room at the university he works/worked for on 6th instant. Lol. The OP constantly whinges about life in the west yet now wants the protection that life in the west gives. Make up your mind.

heh, heh, more obsessive mutterings
I suppose he/she's right, people shouldn't have rights.
KiR, I think likewise, but it's always worth a try for a friend. One never knows. The justice system worked for me once, despite some suggesting I use my contacts/bribe someone.

Not obsessive mutterings. You want the safety net of the west. Live in the west. You want the free lifestyle of the third world. Live in the third world. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Being an expat from a first-world country and living in a third-world country is about as close as u can get. Of course, until u slip and fall.Hun Ben wrote:. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

True. We'd better scrap all the tarred roads, not bitch about slow internet to companies that supply us in the boonies, throw away the western contact lenses and the laptops, mobile phones etc. and revert to traditional healers when our loved ones get sick.Great plan, can see the depth of forethought involved in that.Hun Ben wrote: You can't have your cake and eat it too.
After all, why should there be justice in Cambodia? They're just savages, right?

Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.

That better not be a gateau, tarte or petit fours there mac. Only cheap, spongy cake sold off the back of a bicycle for us expats, otherwise you should just go home for that kind of indulgence. tut tut.MoodyMac wrote:How can I eat my cake if I don't have it?Hun Ben wrote:. it is rather lame that one of the teachers had to throw up a donation box for old geoff instead of the school actually having half a heart and giving him a months salary, considering that he had the accident in school as well, poor show.

The school I work for issues accident cover for any accidents happening on the school premises. But only after one year's service. Still better than nothing. Vlad's point is vladid, though - a bit of common sense and a little human sympathy and compassion wouldn't go amiss.
O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven
