Entwistle departed the physical realm in true rock star fashion. Massive heart attack at 57, while coked to the eyeballs and banging a Vegas showgirl. Must have taken the lyric seriously.
The comments on this thread reflect a sad but true observation on a small cross sectional sample ( did I ever mention that I was a mathematician and an economist?), however it extends to all societies.
I find it particulalry immoral and sad that Western society is finding it increasingly more convenient and profitable to export their "junk" ( as one poster termed this ) to developing nations, whether that "junk" be sub-quality consumer goods, sub-quality attitudes and education, or sub-quality pensioners ( because their own society and government finds the poltical solution, through social security legislation, of exporting their problems far easier than dealing with them on home ground, where they usually have a vote ).
I also find that this only compounds the problems of developing nations like Cambodia. Cambodia has enough problems of its own without importing problems through initiatives like expanding tourism without thought for the perhaps unintended consequences of a government.
Did I mention that I am a computer scientist and an economist somewhere before? Don't worry, I would not work for an NGO if they paid me - I believe NGO's do far more damage tham good. As a matter of fact, it is my belief that a one destitute foreigner ( or "barang" ) generates far more money ( eg: Wild Turkey Man ) than the interference of any number of NGOs.
Maybe I am wrong. I WAS wrong once, but as it turned out, I was mistaken.

Which rock star had the 15 year old girlfriend?
Wasnt it a rolling stone?
Her name was mandy.
I think he was a bass player like entwhistle-I didnt even know that he had expired.

Expect to see a lot more of them in the coming years, Thailand doesn't want them anymore so they move east.

No, that was Jimmy Page, actually. Refer to "Hammer of the Gods", great chronicle of rock star excess.ken svay wrote:Which rock star had the 15 year old girlfriend?

No, Bill Wyman had the 13 year old girlfriend, she says he was sleeping with her when she was 14. He was around 48 at the time. Pete Townsend was the guy with the huge collection of kiddie porn that he apparently only downloaded so he could do some research for a book. Neither of them served a day in jail.ken svay wrote:Which rock star had the 15 year old girlfriend?

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

The idea of allowing long term residence through "business visas" to any bum or Nigerian drug dealer who can afford a plane ticket to Cambodia is nuts.
Why don't the immigration officers at least ask the "business visa" applicants "Do you have proof of employment here?" "No, okay you pay an extra $50 per month."
That would be a start anyway.

And effectively raising the cost of living by $600,- a year (since almost no one will have such proof on arrival). Thanks so much for your great ideas GM. Now shut up and don't come back until you washed your mouth...gavinmac wrote:The idea allowing long term residence through "business visas" to any bum or Nigerian drug dealer who can afford a plane ticket to Cambodia is nuts.

I've always loved the very transparent visa system. It's a good introduction for the visitor to Cambodia, where anything is for sale.

Until some Khmer bureaucrat decides that forum moderating doesn't qualify for business visa status as a Khmer can do it...

* HOPE I DIE BEFORE I GET OLD*
It would be interesting to know who wrote the lyrics, who recorded and distributed [and so on] and where they
are now - in hale and hearty old age [as one might hope] ...
================================
A DIGRESSION FOLLOWS:
THE WYMAN-TOWNSEND SOCIETY MEETS HERE EVERY MONTH TO SWAP DVDs ETC.,
All literate surfers know that what is now VERBOTEN was once 100% OK
Just like Mary Jane and Opium were once 100% legal in Youkay but they ain't no more and that's that!.
When LOLITA was published, the fictional Dolores Haze - then 12 - was at the time marriageable in several US States.
Even now, there are so many absurd anomalies in some juridictions.
If - say - a chap in the U.S.A. marries a pre-18-year-old, he can take
Polaroid [TM] snaps of her unclad with no bother. If he shows them to another
person or {shudder} posts them on the 'net ... he
has committed a FEDERAL CRIME
How did we get HERE from the guys sniffing drainpipes and reciting the alphabet ?

There's a reason why virtually no other country on earth allows foreigners to stay indefinitely without proof of a job, funds, or income to sustain themselves. Because if you allow that, your country eventually becomes overrun with lowlife foreign drug dealers, bums, drug users, scam artists, and criminals.
It's a shame Cambodia can't recognize this. Instead of adopting a reasonable immigration policy, they are just allowing any foreigner to live there, until the point when they finally recognize they have a problem, at which point they will take silly overly-draconian measures to clean out the foreigners.
