Attempted robbery
Last night as I was walking home a young man ran out and attempted to pull my Khmer friend's purse off her shoulder. Embarrassingly for him, he failed. He then ran back into the encampment in front of a coffee shop that he had darted out from. He was about 20 feet from a 24-hour military police station.
This was such a lame robbery attempt on so many levels, especially since this was essentially one of my neighbors who then ran back home after he failed. I could probably go outside and find him in less than five minutes.
Anyway, I think robbery season has started. Anyone else heard of any recent bag-snatchings?

My friend didn't want to do anything about it, so we didn't. Also I was under the impression that to report stuff to the police requires a payment, and I didn't think it was worth doing since the guy didn't manage to get the bag.LTO wrote:As the police were only 20 feet away, did you consider walking over and telling them?

well, i dont know if its logic or not, actually its probably a sure fired way of receiving a beating, but, if you take your motorbike keys and slip them over your middle finger, then every time a motodope or tuktuk asks you if you need a ride, then you can just flip them off (to show them your keys obviously)badboybubby wrote:keep going bonez...i wonna hear the logic...

I hear where you are coming from. It can be an exercise in pointlessness.giblet wrote:My friend didn't want to do anything about it, so we didn't. Me though, I wouldn't necessarily have 'reported it' (per se,) but with all the players in such close proximity and immediately available, I think I may have walked over and told the cops what had just happened and where he was. They don't necessarily like to make reports about crimes that they will never solve (at least without significant payment,) but if they think they can lay their hands on the perp right away, they are often up for the game. And, personally, if they went over and snatched him up and gave him a stern talking to, so to speak, I probably would slip them a gratuity, asked or not, and then let the whole thing drop. As it stands, if he is a neighbor, he now feels that he can take a stab at you without fear of consequence.
