Only claim i make is i agree with Mao
Least us not forget Dylans song as well;
"With God On Our Side"
Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And the land that I live in
Has God on its side.......
Quoting someone (Mao) to back up your own personal view without taking into account the legacy of the man quoted undermines your position.
It is true that the Tibetan monks ruled a strong handed theocracy over the peasants in Tibet, and likely that the Dalai Lama's exile has actually deepened his personal understanding, compassion, leadership and credibility. But to quote a man who led his country into misery, murder and famine does nothing to support your statement or belief.
Re Bob Dylan. While Dylan recognizes the fallacy of religious nationalism in this song, he in at least one period of his life had a deep and personal religious experience.
"I was in your presence for an hour or so
Or was it a day? I truly don’t know
Where the sun never set, where the trees hung low
By that soft and shining sea
Did you respect me for what I did
Or for what I didn’t do, or for keeping it hid?
Did I lose my mind when I tried to get rid
Of everything you see?
In the summertime, ah in the summertime
In the summertime, when you were with me
I got the heart and you got the blood
We cut through iron and we cut through mud
Then came the warnin’ that was before the flood
That set everybody free
Fools they made a mock of sin
Our loyalty they tried to win
But you were closer to me than my next of kin
When they didn’t want to know or see
In the summertime, ah in the summertime
In the summertime when you were with me
Strangers, they meddled in our affairs
Poverty and shame was theirs
But all that sufferin’ was not to be compared
With the glory that is to be
And I’m still carrying the gift you gave
It’s a part of me now, it’s been cherished and saved
It’ll be with me unto the grave
And then unto eternity
In the summertime, ah in the summertime
In the summertime when you were with me" -Bob Dylan.
Re Lucky Lucans response about the language used in Buddhist ceremonies.
Do they still use Sanskrit in Buddhist ceremonies and lessons in Cambodia? I would like to see the teachings translated into contemporary languages so the adherents can understand. Teaching in an ancient language like Sanskrit (or Latin) that lay folk don't understand is on a par with giving an old toothless lady a 1 pound steak and no knife or fork. How can the teachings of Buddhism (or any other subject) help people if they can't swallow it?
Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.
