Thousands of them and the vast majority in professional jobs, living honest and good lives. Just a few bad ones, as there are in any expat community.

I am from the country that I don't think Filipinos go to.Alex wrote:Have you ever been to any country in the world where there were NO filipinos? I think I can honestly say I haven't!HunterXXX1991 wrote:haha i did not know there were filipinos in cambodia

This one? http://fisheggtree.blogspot.com/LTO wrote:Check out Fisheggtree's blog. He details where they work in HCMC and includes several photos of the perps.markchan wrote:Oh nice, I'm heading for HCMC for a few days this first week of Jan.
Will make sure I spend an afternoon walking around to confront them. Have a few embarrassing words in store for them.
Where exactly do they usually hang out?

They probably will kill you if you "forgot" to bring your Credit Card.gavinmac wrote:The scam is described in this Phnom Penh Post article:

We still need someone from Khmer440 to go undercover on one of these scams. Walk around the Royal Palace with no money or ATMs cards on you, pretend to be a rube tourist, go along with the scam, and then report back. They probably won't kill you.

It's odd that he took them down, isn't it. Not even one article left explaining why. I wonder why he did that.LTO wrote:Looks like he took down all his posts about it. That's kind of unfortunate. He did extensive work tracking them around HCMC and posting their photos. There were at least a dozen posts on it. Oh well.
Vagabond Traveler also did a post about his experience with it in HCMC: http://johnnyvagabond.com/featured/poker-scam-saigon/

Maybe the police are there already? What Your Name? wrote:It seems to me a no-brainer, that if "the scammed" are taken to a certain place, why have the police not gone there? Maybe kill the goose who lays the golden egg, why would they do it?

You absolutely did the right thing. Good job. I hope to do the same someday.Vox Clamantis wrote:In fact it's been quite a week. The other day I was driving down Street 63 around 730pm when I noticed out of the corner of my eye two guys on a motorbike advancing on the tuktuk I was in. The guy on the back reached into the tuktuk to try and grab my phone. I held on and with my spare hand managed (I'm not quite sure how) to punch him full in the face. First punch I have properly landed since Rugby-playing days and uniquely satisfying both from the wobble of the moto and the shocked look on the guy's face. They didn't come back.
I guess it might have been a stupid thing to do given recent violent muggings but it was some sort of instinct and in hindsight we were just approaching the busy part of St 63 (near Champs Elysses) so at a stretch help might have been on hand.

It is possible. He called my friend once while he was at my place earlier and then again when he went out to get a bite to eat. I got him to tell the guy he was busy today and that he will call him back later. Any suggestions on what to do? Leave the bastard alone or maybe record something? Have Vox punch him in the face and record that?Vox Clamantis wrote:Can I punch the old guy blackjack scammer from Manilla too?
