How to deal with Mother-In-Law...
Or should I say, how to deal with the girl... (not "in-law")
Even after the kids have been married many years, around here the mother still calls she shots (yes I know, nothing unusual) but when the advise is against the best future interest of the daughter (and relations with BF as possible future husband), and the daughter takes mom's advice before having a serious discussion with BF), we have a problem.
Options:
1. Try again to talk sense into the girl's head (just about given up on that);
2. Try talk sense into the mother's head (unlikely);
3. Quit and run (easiest);
4. Accept whatever they want to do (unsatisfactory in the long run).
PS:
Please no crap about previous postings, just stay on topic.

I think we really need more details here in order for this to make sense. What advice is she giving to the daughter that the BF objects to?
Follow my lame Twitter feed: @gavin_mac
Might need a little more insight into the advice vs future interest - ack, gm beat me to it - posting anyway!

Pre-marital sex? Why not respect the traditions of the country?
I came, I argued, I'm out

It's not so much the actual issue, rather than the fact she seems unable to discuss it with BF so that he can explain the pros and cons.
Bottom line, it will adversely affect her ability to settle in Australia (as a couple) in the future.
It's about a fucking interfering potential mother-in-law, but looks like she won't be my mother-in-law.
You might be saving yourself a whole lot of grief if you just RUN.

1 and 2 are impossible, so that leaves u with option 3... Rhymes with "GUN"!
P.S. I personally think u didn't list all ur options... Option 4: accept it and stfu

Send her back to the province......
My wife and her mother argued constantly about the many changes I was making (for a better living standard and for Australian PR) and it began to annoy me...she would never bring it up with me directly - even when I challenged her....
She had absolute resistance to change!
To be fair she was afraid of loosing her daughter and the financial support....she has little education and not much prospect for her old age.
We have a farm outside SR that needed looking after so we sent her to be boss of that....now she can argue all day with someone else.......
It has been very peaceful since.......

Just out of interest, who's older - you or the mother in law?Don-Pierre de Plume wrote:Or should I say, how to deal with the girl... (not "in-law")
