no worries...thanks....he's posted somewhere near the thai border so it might be a bit of a hike....doing it as much for my girl as she feels a bit responsible for him getting out there...i'll make some local enquiries...
He's been in his room 35 years...time to let him out!

Went through this with a Khmer female one time. Don't know if it'll work out the same for him. She escaped from Malaysia without her passport across the border into Thailand, then within a day was arrested on the Thai side for illegal entry. The Thai cops transported her to the Cambodian border but held her on the Thai side in lieu of a hefty 'fine.' While waiting there a friendly money lender just happened by and lent her the money to pay off the Thai cops to let her go. But then to pay off the debt to the mEndersender she ended up doing bonded labor in Poipet for months.
Hopefully it'll go better for your friend.

Get LICADHO or Mu Sochua involved at this end, get the Malaysian human rights NGO involved in Malaysia. Just google one of the old PPP stories, they and their female boss are often mentioned. And otherwise, as 'Drunk again'. Go to the Cambodian embassy, but after you've contacted the NGOs.
I wouldn't do anything illegal in Malaysia.

Fuck with me and you'll get AIDS
I assume he voluntarily gave it to them. Now they won't give it back. Doesn't seem 100% illegal. That's like Lucky Lucky not giving it back for some reason. Can they not do that either?Lucky Lucan wrote:Absolutely not, it is illegal for any third party to hold anyone's passport without their explicit permission. What to do about it I'm really not sure, unfortunately this sort of abuse is all too common amongst migrant workers from poorer countries.badboybubby wrote:
my question is can they legally do this? ie withhold someone's passport in such manner and if not what can he do about it?
If it's 100% illegal I would go to a Cambodian Consulate or something (assuming they might have them there...).
