Amen to this.starkmonster wrote:Those planning on relocating to Cambodia often ask about personal safety in the context of others doing harm to them. The more pertinent question though would be about them doing harm to themselves.
Out of all the people I know here who have taken a hard fall 90% of the time it has been self inflicted in one way or another.

I was a roof guy, wherever I could, I'd get on the roof.doktor_d wrote:Ah.. I understand. Btw, I'm a little surprised. I always took you for a roof guy.. It's waaaay cheaper to sit up there, don't you know?
In Laos trucks and pickups, in Cambodia vans but only with those roof contraptions as in the picture.

You were here in 1987? I find that a bit hard to believe, what were you doing here?Ukky wrote:I think I fell for Cambodia, still a bit rough, but kinda one of those places that I saw 25 years ago and wanted to be part of.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

You are far less likely to put a bullet in your head out of boredom/frustration in Cambodia.

Bullets are the least of your worries. Even taking ricochets into account.
You're far more likely to get taken out by some freshy boy showing how fast Daddys' Lexus can go on the wrong side of the road.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

Easily avoided. Just get hopped up on local whiskey and meth and head full speed down the wrong side of the road in the other direction, waving wildly at freshie boy as you pass him with a doobie hanging from your lower lip. Then for a real head rush dump a couple of copy viagras and race him to the nearest premiere karaoke bar saying looser gets all the thin, lightly tanned girls.
No not Cambodia, I said "kinda like one of those places that I saw"Lucky Lucan wrote:You were here in 1987? I was lucky to do the Thai, Laos, VNam and Burma,Philippines before internet and mobiles and tsunamis.
Worked in Bk a few times and backpacked the above nearly every year.
First time in Cambodia last year, wanted to dirtbike and dive. Excellent adventures, felt like I had found the old Asia that makes me come alive.

What do you mean by safest? All the little dope smoking, crap car with bodykit driving Wanynes who live by me say "Safe" all of the time. I think it means "Cool" "Good" "Nice one bruv" or "See you later".
I think every country in the world is dangerous if you're an ignorant, alcohol consuming knuckle dragging blockhead. I hope these fools get taken out, survival of the fittest and all that.
I feel safer in the UK because we have things called hospitals and ambulances, also if I get in trouble I can call my father who is hard as fuck and he will go mental if anyone tries to harm his little boy. My mummy is also near and she can cook me a nice meal after any traumatic event. Her dogs will also lick my face and make me feel better.
I think the UK is staring into the abyss (I don't know what that means, but it sounds really bad.) It's not the same country I grew up in. The 1990's were happy and carefree. Lots of fun, lots of drugs, lots of girls. It all went pear shaped when it hit 2000, or after 9/11 or whenever but it's gone bad somewhere along the line. There are also no white kids left in any of the schools.
I hope aliens come with hostile intent.
