Ah yes Lexus, let me know how long I must live in Cambodia for until I actually am...... Err re...Living in Cambodia.LexusSchmexus wrote:Went there for the first time a bit over a month ago. I had totally forgotten about this thread until they asked me to pay the white-man tax. Basically, it's not a "bad" deal. They simply force you to pay a "package" deal. Meaning, you have access to certain rides, or all rides, for free. For example, if you pay say, 7$, you can ride A, B, C, D, E, F and G rides for free (unlimited number of rides). If you pay 13$, you can ride all the rides in the park for free, as many times as you want. These package deals are available for khmers as well (I see Cambod posted the package deals). If you actually want to do lots of rides, it's a good deal (as most rides are what, 5000R?). But obviously, if you just want to walk around to check things out (as I did), it's a shit deal. I got a bit pissed and argued with the clerks and said I lived here. They asked if I had proof. I ended up showing an ATM card from a Cambodian bank and they let me pay the regular 2000R entrance fee. Voila.
So all the recent hate here is pretty much unwarranted. If you LIVE here and have proof, then it's a non-issue. DetroitM showed up like two weeks ago so I don't think he really qualifies yet, but either way: driver's license, ATM card whatever: normal fee.

And that is exactly why I would never got to Dreamland, Barang prices or not. A lot of the regular posters here are on and on about how cr*p the Khmer are at everything, but you would go on one of the rides? Gee, I'd rather be taking my chances in traffic.Summary: A Khmer woman working for an NGO died in Calmette Hospital after being thrown off the Twin Twister

So, does anyone know how many people have died at Dream Land thus far?

I wouldn't get on any ride in Dreamland. The reason I don't go is that I'm too scared of a falling Cambodian landing on me.Hanno wrote: And that is exactly why I would never got to Dreamland, Barang prices or not. you're right of course, only the business aspect is "owned" by them... and it's only on what... a 99 year lease wasn't it? that's not technically ownership. the context and relevance i intended was "the entity that allows khmers in free, and charges everyone else" as it was in regards to this topic. they don't "own" the buildings/land/structures. only the access to them.Lucky Lucan wrote:Yeah, I'm with you on that. What a pile of complete BS. Angkor Wat is not owned by the Sokha group, the ticket concession is run by them, quite a different thing. It's typical BS that you'd hear off barely-educated tuk-tuk drivers in Siem Reap, who will also "inform" you that the Sokha group is Vietnamese. You're a nice guy OD, but do us a favor and stop buying into opposition party crap. Angkor Wat isn't a "religious site" either, unless you're talking about Cambodian Hindus, who there couldn't be more than a handful of. It's what's known as a prasat, which basically means an old ruin. It's about as religious to them as the tree or stream that they give offerings to every now and again with their strange arrangements of joss-sticks, banana leaves, rice and sundry garbage. The vast majority of the thousands of Khmers I've talked to over the years have never even gone near the place, they'd rather go to the beach if they could afford it. I'm not trying to say that they aren't proud of it, but it's a site dedicated to Vishnu, and has fuck all to do with the later Buddhism that they adopted.shitegeist wrote:

It's rehab was funded by foreign governments... with the tax money of us foreigners... why don't foreigners get in for free? We already paid to fix it up.

I honestly don't know why you guys are getting so steamed up about Dreamland. Speaking personally and without even thinking about any price gouging issues or whatever, I'd rather have Violet sit on my face than go anywhere near the dump. Just having to drive past it is bad enough.......

Actually, everyone can see you edited it afterwards. Just saying. But it's ok, I still like your posts.LexusSchmexus wrote:I didn't edit anything. You just modified that quote to make me look bad.cambod wrote:Thanks for the edit though...

No way man. Cambod just asked one of his moderator friends (probably Laud John) to insert that "Edited" part under my post. Now you're just falling for their conniving ways!
