I run into a Cambodian-Aussie guy in Kampong Cham. His first words were "Can you change a $100". Sitting in a Cambodian run restaurant. I think I can guess the scam, but was it anything above a fake $100?
I assume the restaurant was in on the deal.
I lost no money.

Is there any possibility the guy just needed change?Uncle Monty wrote:I run into a Cambodian-Aussie guy in Kampong Cham. His first words were "Can you change a $100". Sitting in a Cambodian run restaurant. I think I can guess the scam, but was it anything above a fake $100?

Did you see the note was counterfeit?
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
We live in an age where we can't trust anybody anymore. Anyway the last thing I want is a $100 bill, I prefer the change

Maybe he wanted to see how much cash you had on you. Seems like a good way to get a look. Some of these tourists carry thousands of dollars on them.

So no possibility that the Cambodian owners were unable to break a $100 note?Uncle Monty wrote:No, could have asked the Cambodian owners. Didn't want to.LaudJohn wrote:

So you did not see the note in question I take it?
Yet you surmise this is a scam and the note was a fake.

Doesn't sound like a scam to me. Sometimes, restaurants run out of change so they'll ask you for a smaller bill.

So, were they in on it or not? How are you so sure he hadn't previously asked the owners?Uncle Monty wrote:

I don't see any reason for you to think the restaurant was in on it. Maybe you're just paranoid? Who knows.
