you mean other than shutting off your computer and actually spending some time in cambodia
According to Mac's definition of trolls it is only people fishing for a reaction.
He says it is not to do with the trolls who prevent you from crossing bridges and such.
But the worst trolls are really preventing people from crossing the bridge of
communication. They use really trashy posts in order to KILL a thread, so that
no more communication takes place. So trolling can also be trashing a thread.
The thread on how to reply to questions, regarding the q and a forum was started
as a reprimand to certain posters who screwed up a thread about an island
that depends on tourism for much of its support. They were trolls.

always a little strange to try to make sense of forum morality.
Totally edifying!Khmeria wrote:You sound like you're bent over holding your well-lubed butt cheeks apart so that Gavin might thrust his miniature genitalia vaguely between them

Points taken.sbmohr75 wrote:As a newcomer I was rather shocked at the rude and downright mean-spirited comments that my first post elicited from several forum members. I know that my post may have seemed naive or that I was trolling or whatever, but it was the truth and I posted about it because I wanted feedback from those who have been here and know how things work. Most replies were cordial and helpful, and I especially enjoyed reading AiA's blog about his experiences with his girlfriend. It was particularly illuminating for me. But some of the responses really made me question if I wanted to continue being a member of this forum. I don't understand why some of the posters are such assholes. I mean, didn't we all come to Cambodia because it offered us a chance to have opportunities and a standard of living that we did not have at home? Therefore I would think that people would be a little more cheerful and upbeat (changes in latitude, changes in attitude). I for one am thrilled and grateful to for the opportunities I have in Cambodia. Why be miserable?Felgerkarb wrote:I don't have much to say regarding these particular bans, but I have been distancing myself from 440 because I am getting really tired of every thread devolving into utter shite. I believe I pointed out a year ago the amount of cunts pouring into Cambodia and bleeding over onto 440 -- I have pretty much had enough. Hopefully a new era of artful banning will staunch the heavy flow and keep me interested.
As I said, from now on, any issues with shitfuckery and rudeness towards new posters then just pm me.The ban hammer is ready.

This is nothing whatsoever to do with Candy. I was actually quite relieved when their final contract expired as I wasn't especially comfortable with that ad being on our top rack.Visser wrote:Wondered why the long running advert for Candy bar had gone. Thought it was a move by the owners in line with their "we are not a website for men chasing pussy in Cambodia" attitude so am a bit surprised they banned Jonno over it.
But seriously, what is the use of permabanning an account when the user can set up a new one without any problems?

I'd wager more traffic through this site comes from people living outside Cambodia wanting to gain information about it as apposed to people living there.Khmeria wrote:

In all fairness, I think the main reason you got those responses was because it was a topic that has been raised numerous times in the past, and you most likely knew the answer to it already.sbmohr75 wrote: As a newcomer I was rather shocked at the rude and downright mean-spirited comments that my first post elicited from several forum members. ..... No, in my case my standard of living was much higher and the opportunities were far wider when I lived in Europe, I just began to hate that place and wanted something completely different.I mean, didn't we all come to Cambodia because it offered us a chance to have opportunities and a standard of living that we did not have at home?
I have often had similar feelings. I recently felt like I'd just give up on posting altogether, mainly because of the bile spewed out by Jonnopfc and a few others, but then I always find myself coming back on here. I spend a lot of spare time in work and at home online, and am often juggling between a few sites at a time, and find this one particularly entertaining and informative, especially as it deals with one of my main obsessions, this country.Felgerkarb wrote:I don't have much to say regarding these particular bans, but I have been distancing myself from 440 because I am getting really tired of every thread devolving into utter shite. I am quite aware that I probably come across as one of the nastiest, bile-spewing assholes on here, but believe I always have good reasons for any of that. When I first noticed this site in 2003 or so, I was very reluctant to join as it was quite a different kettle of fish in those days, and fools weren't suffered gladly. I've never been banned or even threatened with banning, but a year or so back a moderator sent me a PM asking me to tone it down a little, as the site was trying to appeal to a wider audience. I agreed with him and took the advice on board. At the same time, I sometimes get annoyed with unsubstantiated crap people post, and especially in the evenings when I tend to have a few beers in me can respond indiscriminately.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
That, pretty much.Lucky Lucan wrote:I have often had similar feelings. I'd agree with that, too - but how the fk you can sit and actually write that is beyond me.slavedog wrote: Hear hear. I don't mind naivety, or even what some call trolling - whatever that is (maybe I'm naive but I often can't figure out why posters get accused of being trolls). slavedog's "clique" - read both pages.
Well, there are, as they say, two sides to every story. And there are a few posters on this forum already familiar with the other side of this one. C2U knows full well that my position as his superior at the time this happened prevents me from saying much about it on a public internet forum. I was made aware of the thread at the time and stayed out of it. I won't be drawn into now, even if three years have passed. Better let sleeping dogs lie.
But for those who don't already know and perhaps won't glean it from the information at hand, I will just point out that I am not the forty-something antagonist in C2U's tale - I was, and in fact still am, in my thirties, and played merely a supporting role.
NB. I always liked and respected C2U when we worked together and I feel a bit disappointed that he's chosen to drag up the episode and especially that he seems to feel some resentment towards me personally. But as there's not much I can do about it I won't lose sleep.
