A Classified Ad on Cambodia Parents Network
Eagle-eyed Ned Kelly spotted a strange-but-almost-true ad on the Cambodia Parent's Network Yahoo Group and being the generous soul he is, decided to share the link with us.

Pure gold. I'm surprised the cpn put it up.

Pretty funny, I checked out that CPN and all it seems to be is a classified ads job selling stuff at extortionate prices, and has little or nothing to do with parenting. I joined their page, and after a cursory glance over their fucking shite, left it.
One blooper though, is that the land-fill at Stung Meanchey was closed more than two years ago. I've been by there recently and it's starting to grow over with vegetation, the land around there is quite pleasant looking rice-fields and farms. The new dump is down at Choueng-Ek.

That is pure gold, brilliant!
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
You should read a few REAL ads on there first.....then come back 'round these here parts...Pol Pothead wrote:I don't get it. I guess some original text was altered and exaggerated to take the piss out of some posh NGO types? It's somwhat amusing but I don't get the glowing praise so far.

Well I'm not going to bother my arse to join the CPN again to check it, but I can't say I noticed any posts there that even barely resemble what Ned wrote. Like I said, it's mainly just classified ads. Table, bought for $300 only 6 months ago, barely used, $270, etc....Pol Pothead wrote:I don't get it. Agree. It's unoriginal, pointless and mildly amusing at best. The kind of thing I'd expect to see in the Bayon Pearnik.Pol Pothead wrote:I don't get it. Whew, I almost got to the end of this thread without encountering somebody who hated what I wrote, I was afraid I'd lost my touch. Thank you to those who enjoyed it. Thank you to those who didn't. This started out as a fake ad I was posting to CPN just to be an asshole and offend a few people, but then I discovered that they moderate all posts, and I knew it'd never pass their gatekeepers. So I sent to Khmer440, where offending people is an old and hallowed tradition.
Here's why I wrote it: I go through that list from time to time looking at the BUY/SELL classifieds. There are various types of stuff that occasionally get put up for sale on there that do not ever ever ever get posted on this forum, much less Bong Thom or one of the other classified sites. Home theater systems with giant televisions or late model luxury SUV's. The stuff is always about a year old, two at most. And they are always asking for about exactly what they paid for it, maybe 10% off because it's "just like brand new." What kind of dipshit moves to Cambodia for a year and needs a full on home theater system installed for that duration? Oh, a rich dipshit who is on the CPN mailing list. Duh.
There is another very typical genre of ad on there --- the departing expat or expat family attempting to find work for their servants. Who they invariably call "helpers" or something instead of maid or nanny etc (I fucked that up by forgetting to utilize that noxious little quirk in my ad, but I only did one draft and it was written quickly because I was trying to post it on the actual CPN.) They talk up their servant's many fine features like they are about to auction them off and it all just seems very patronizing and paternalistic and neo-colonial to me.
What set me off and had me writing that ad was somebody who was looking for work for their GUARD. They had a fucking guard the whole time they lived here, just for their house. Nobody needs that. I don't care how expensive your shit is or how important you think you are. I'm the richest motherfucker on my block, I just about guarantee it. And my place is often locked with one shitty padlock that I know can be gotten through with a chisel and hammer in under a minute because I've seen it done to an identical lock when I lost my keys once. I left the place unattended to for 2 months, no problem. Guards? It's just ridiculous ivory-tower expat living, where the person or people in question attempt to live in Cambodia while not really living in Cambodia. So they can reap whatever rewards enticed them here and avoid whatever discomforts or irritations they see as the pitfalls. I guess that isn't against the laws of man or nature, but it sure makes them appear to be annoying assholes, in my view. The Cambodia that most of us live in, and the Cambodia that they attempt to "live around" are very different places and very different experiences, I think.

PS: (Also: Fuck you if you think your shallow critique of my shallow satire is worth mine or anyone else's time to read even if it's a sentence long. It isn't. Write a 1000 words on something and post it here for people to judge. I won't be judging it because I probably won't bother reading it, but I'm sure you'll knock their socks off. Thanks for reading, anyways.)
PPS: (You all knew I wasn't going to hold my tongue, I never do. ^^^ Anyone offended by that or anyone who is about to start yapping about me being thin skinned etcetera etcetera: just stop, I don't actually care that much, I'm just returning their rude gestures, I'm not actually upset. It's the fuckin' internet.)

How much art can you take?
I enjoyed the story. Sounds like some of the assholes I knew.
( At an engagement party to a posh Lawyer's daughter the Host asked the-Groom-to-be, " Tell us what Private Schools you attended and what University you graduated from? " His answer to the posh crowd was, " I dropped out of high school and collect benefits. " )
It was very funny watching the faces hit the floor.

The Earth is degenerating these days. Bribery and corruption abound.

Is there some way to view it without signing up for it or was I looking at the right one? Is it a Facebook group?
