Plainclothes Khmer with AK47 on back of motorbike
As the title says, I recently saw a Khmer in plainclothes (i.e. not in a police or security uniform) carrying what appeared to be an AK47 slung over his shoulder as he rode on the back of a motorbike. This was during daylight hours on a highly trafficked road in Siem Reap. Any thoughts on this? Just thought it was a rather curious sight. Haven't been in SR for very long so......maybe this is a level of normalcy that I'm just not familiar with.

easily a copper/soldier not in uniform on his way somewhere to do some target practice/etc.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Odd lack of discretion though.OrangeDragon wrote:easily a copper/soldier not in uniform on his way somewhere to do some target practice/etc.

Because it makes barangs nervous and SR is a city entirely dependent on barrang money. Also, there's this thing called professionalism and...well, never mind.OrangeDragon wrote:why would they care two shits about discretion...

Obviously the OP hasn't been here long. Was the guy on the back of the motorbike, perchance, wearing a buttoned-down collar shirt, with dress pants and a short back-and sides? Did he have his shirt tucked in? Did you notice a walkie-talkie ? Robbers don't dress like that. Security forces do. Get with the program.

Well well well, the know-it-all Lucky Leprechaun again. The only thing I noticed was the AK and a face that looked like it would make 9 out of 10 children cry if they merely put eyes on it. As far as security forces, I'm familiar with them. I have two of them guarding my apartment complex 24/7. Neither cruises around with an assault weapon but they both look mean as hell and always wear uniforms.Lucky Lucan wrote:Obviously the OP hasn't been here long. Nah, I've been around guns my whole life. Just haven't seen too many guys carrying around AKs in the afternoon riding on the back of motorbikes.cambod wrote:Awww, were you nervous?6EQUJ5 wrote:

You're not in Kansas anymore Toto. Best to try and not over-analyse everything you see and experience in this wonderful country, just enjoy it6EQUJ5 wrote:Nah, I've been around guns my whole life. Just haven't seen too many guys carrying around AKs in the afternoon riding on the back of motorbikes.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Potato-eater/Leprechaun? Your pathetic racist comments don't make you seem any less stupid and ignorant than you have already proved yourself to be.
Just to put you in the picture, because you're plainly far too thick to figure it out yourself, plain-clothes security forces here don't look quite like they do in many other countries. I've seen plain-clothes cops in Europe with dreadlocks, wearing scruffy clothes who are very hard to differentiate from the average street scum-bag. Plain-clothes security services here are generally ex-military veterans of the 80s/90s wars. They don't have long hair or beards or ripped anoraks. They do look mean as fuck, because they are. They generally dress neatly too. You know fuck all about it, so don't patronize me with your lame boasts about the guards in your apartment.
Maybe there might be a clue there? However you're obviously too sheltered and inbred to figure out what that might mean.a face that looked like it would make 9 out of 10 children cry if they merely put eyes on it...they both look mean as hell..

7 forbid it (including texas if you can imagine that...)
15 pretty much leave it subject to local laws, and most of these states frown on it and will hassle the person even when there's no specific law preventing it.
13 only permit it with a special license
The rest it's legal... however in most of them if you're doing it in a public place where it can cause "public alarm" as deemed by the officers you can still be charged with disturbing the peace.
And federal law prevents doing so within 1000 feet of a school (K-12).
