Better speak Russian or Khmer languages then. If N doesn't know who you are or the reason motivating your visit, he will play the no English speaking attitudechubacca wrote:You could ask the Russian dude who owns the Snake House in Sihanoukville - his hummer was always parked outside Sophies!Capital_9 wrote:What bar in PP 2014 would you say is closest in ambiance, or some other measure, to the Sophie's of a decade ago?
Having had numerous long conversations with him in Khmer, I can say these were totaly surrealist experiences. Especialy when we did so while some of his Russians investors where present.
ps to Capital 9: None.
Not true. I know the fellow and he was a virtual monk while here in PP. A well respected and published poet, he was always searching for the higher meanings in life. Illicit sex? perish the thought! A saint, he was.chubacca wrote:I think Khmerhit was being facetious! Damn I wish Sophies was still around... I feel cheated to have arrived here so late... I didn't realize at first the age of this thread.Dagenham wrote:Not true. Can't remember where and when, but once I met an ex Sophie's girl while at an expat party (it was one of the girls featured in the video that hastened Sophie's closure).
Recognizing each other after so many years, she discreetly came to me and told me she was now happily married to the guy she was with on that very night. She asked me not to disclose her past to her husband who had no clue about it .
He might still think his wife was just a normal grey girl and a natural at doing some things, not knowing all the training she went through...

I suggest you take the bulbs out of every lamp in your living room, buy an old 14inch tv set for lightning purpose, set up a cheap bar with a few stools and give us your address.
That way you could earn a few bucks selling us drinks but more importantly bring hapiness to a bunch of melancholic posters...

If they would stand right in front
Of you you would never ever
recognize them. Thats what
a Khmer husband and a number
of children did to them. Actually,
those I know overthere are
living in abject poverty.
