-Phnom Penh: The body of a Cambodian woman was discovered under the bed of a room at the Bolina Palace Hotel, located at 8 - 9 -10 B, Street 154, Psar Tmey 3 Commune, Daun Penh District. An English tourist who had been renting the room where the body was found is being sought for her murder.
-The discovery was made in the early afternoon of the 29th of December, 2013, when suspicious staff at the hotel used a spare key to enter the room, where they found the body thrust under the bed.
-The 2 staff members who made the discovery told police that a British national named ‘Green Stuatiajames’ - a 48 year old male, holding passport 107259199, with a Cambodian visa entry date stamped 19th June, 2013 - had starting renting room 309 on the 3rd floor from the 25th of December, 2013. At 1:00 pm, after he had possession of the room, they had seen a female, identified as the victim, go up to the room. On the 28th of December, at 11:45 pm, the British national had come downstairs alone and asked staff for his passport back because he needed to withdraw money from the bank to pay for his room. Once he was given back his passport, the British man did not return. At 1:30 pm on the 29th of December, 2013, staff, whose suspicions were aroused, used a spare key to check his room, where they found the dead woman.
-The victim was found naked and an examination revealed several slash marks about her throat. Police have not yet been able to identify the victim, who was described as slender, dark-skinned and 1.53 meters in height. Police are currently searching for the British national, described as the suspect, but he may already have fled the country.
-Police identified the owner of the hotel as ចាប សាយហ៊ាង (Chap Saiheang), a 55 year old Cambodian man.

"Stuatiajames"????
I hope they find the cnut and he spends the next 20 years in a Cambodian slammer. But he is probably flown the coup already.

It seems daft of the staff to believe that he needed his passport at 11.45PM to withdraw money. They should have withheld it until the morning at least. Did he leave with all his belongings? That should also have alerted suspicion.
They have the number, though, so even if he has fled the nest, they should be able to track him down.

Don't grow up - it's a trick!
4 days to even check the room? Even if occupied, I thought it was standard practice to at least check each day if the room needs to be cleaned. If it had a "Do not disturb" sign hanging from the door handle, you would have thought that after 2 days they would have checked......
Impossible to know the circumstances, but I hope she didn't meet a violent end.

The translation is confusing but I read it that the girl went to the room on 28th, he got his passport later that day and she was found dead when they entered a day later.Teach-er wrote:4 days to even check the room? I wonder why they were holding his passport to begin with? I never leave my passport longer than it takes them to copy it.

Possibly in lieu of a deposit? The hotel is a two-minute stroll from Golden Soriya, which as we all know is ground zero for scuzzy, dissolute foreign men.gavinmac wrote:I wonder why they were holding his passport to begin with? I never leave my passport longer than it takes them to copy it.

I assume they already know he's left the country by air from the computerised immigration system or else surely they would publish his passport photo to help track him down in country.

There's a new front page GavinMac piece going live at 8am tomorrow which is hugely relevant to the issue.

I doubt he left by air. That requires spending more money, using the Internet, going to a travel agent, possibly having a credit card, going through computerized exit immigration, name being on passenger manifest, etc. Bus to Bangkok makes more sense. Or a flophouse a block away.
I have no contingency plan for what I would do in this situation. I might bus it to Siem Reap and try to blend with the tourists before figuring out my next move. I don't know.

Hiding out in Cambodia? He'll be found and arrested.
Hopped the border to Thailand? He'll be found, arrested and extradited.
Hopped the border to Vietnam? Ditto
Made it back to Europe (unlikely)? He'll be arrested.
My money is on him being a meth head and short of cash, in which case I doubt he'll be far away.
