Wait, lets be clear: I can do whatever I want. And no, I have not agreed to anything (with her parents) in as much as made any promises. All we did was discuss it, her and I. Her family makes no demands upon her or us, and will accept whatever we (she) tell(s) them.gavinmac wrote:Wait, you've agreed to split half the take with her parents, but now you're planning to skim all the envelopes from white people and family members and just pocket that money and claim that it is not subject to being shared with her parents?PorkPiePorn wrote:I should also make certain that any western friends and family guests/visitors give their envelopes to me or to my best man directly and keep that out of it.
Her family gets a lot more benefit for me than some one time thing at the wedding. At this point I am weighing out all options. All of which will be vetted by my lady.
*Edit, and of course it goes without saying I am paying the shot. Whatever I do, it wont be underhanded, not like I will sneak around doing it. And its not like I am taking advantage of her family. Quite the contrary.
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

TBH I find this a bit weird.PorkPiePorn wrote: I had said no payment to her family, but then we sort of agreed (her and I) that we would split half the take with her parents. Thats too open ended though, perhaps I should just agree to a sum, and then try to maximize my returns otherwise, us of course then keeping/managing it all.
You want to maximise your returns? You're not a young guy just starting out in life, you are loaded compared to (I'd expect) most guests.
Most Khmer folk I know who have got married are delighted if the income from the wedding covers the outlay and that they aren't starting married life with significant debt. Contrary to the D-PdP experience, most weddings aren't raking in that kind of money.
Also, I wouldn't expect too much from your foreign mates - if they've already spent $1000+ coming to attend I wouldn't expect them to shell out much more as a gift.
It sounds like a terrible idea to even discuss it with your future wife. That would be the epitome of a cheap Charlie's dick moves.PorkPiePorn wrote: I should also make certain that any western friends and family guests/visitors give their envelopes to me or to my best man directly and keep that out of it.

I don't agree and shes not like that. In fact, it might have been her idea, but I have to double check, it was a long time ago since we discussed that.logos wrote:It sounds like a terrible idea to even discuss it with your future wife. I was thinking that if my direct family gives me more substantial cash, compared to her side bringing the usual, it would be a given. In any case, its a private issue and none of your concern.

Haha. It's a private issue which I'm discussing on a public forum.
How dare you pass comment.
You're weird.

If you don't want people commenting on your private issues it's probably not wise to post about them on an internet site.
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.

Whats weird is your thinking that my telling what I may do is a solicitation of your opinion. Whats weird is K440 tangents which have nothing to do with what I was talking about, which was my comment about the costs getting covered pretty much by the cash gifts.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Haha. All family systems and relationships are different. Families themselves have a difficult time finding consensus, so my comment that in this case its indeed family business and nothing for anyone else to be concerned about is totally on point.
Check your mirror. Opinions are like assholes ...

New K440 rule. When PorkPiePorn posts something, you are not allowed to express on opinion on what he has written, unless expressly invited.

Yes and then we cheer and drink the urine until dawn at which we sacrifice a dreadlocked backpacker.
Hilarious topic. Tell us more about the asshole you see in the mirror.

Imagine the life of a vulture, sitting around endless steaming days waiting for someone to die, and then a feeding frenzy where you fight over some scant carrion so you can live another day.
Oh wait, no imagination required here, thats your life.
lol.
You guys are quite welcome to share your opinion, its fine. I get some shits and giggles from it too. Its all good.
