Peter Hogan, aka keeping_it_riel RIP
Only met him once or twice and can't say we got along, but got to say thanks for years of (reasonably) level-handed 440.
Well done for that, man.
RIP

I know that if I passed away suddenly like Peter, I wouldn't really care about anything besides how my wife or S.O. is doing. I think the best thing anyone who cares can do for Peter at this point is just be there for his wife. I certainly cannot do that as I didn't know the guy that well and never met his wife.
I am sure that some of you who knew Peter for a while would know a bit about his plans for his wife in case of ... well, this.
For all I know his wife comes from money, but if not, I am sure once done grieving, she has to face the question- What do I do for money and an income now?
Peter made a good living here and from what I picked up over the past 2 years here at K440, he provided for his wife and was creating a pretty long lasting life here in the Kingdom for both of them.
I just hope some of you long timers can step up over the next few days and help his wife out as much as possible.
Sad shit, here. Love him or hate him. We lost a character who was a long-timer in Cambodian but still way to early to go out like this.

Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
Surreal..RIP Peter. Condolences to wife and family.

Apparently the school where he worked had a coverage policy for all staff members. So if someone can pass on this info to the wife then perhaps she won't have to pay all the bills at Calmette.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

Awful, awful news. Peter was a pretty good bloke, all-in-all, and remarkably perceptive at times. The first time I met him he intuitively picked me by my K440 handle, despite the fact that I'd neither announced the fact that I was returning to Phnom Penh, nor mentioned the site in conversation. Indeed, we'd only spoken a few introductory sentences together when he said, "You're Falcon Randwick, aren't you". I remain astounded by that.
Peter was a proto-legend in PNH and deservedly so. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP KiR...

When I saw the news this morning on CEO, I was totally shocked. As others have alluded to, he was a controversial person and by no means a saint, but few of us are. I had a number of disagreements with him in the past, but going like that is a total shame for all those who knew him, both online and offline. He certainly entertained us all over the years with the site and the banter and crazy stories it generated. I hope that in time his wife and family find strength. RIP
As a side note, I agree with charlie UK in that perhaps it's time K440 took a different approach to death threads (news articles and so forth) and the comments which they generate. I don't think anything about the past should be erased. I mostly mean commenting on people's appearance when found dead on their bathroom floor with only dirty underwear on, jokes and puns about the deceased and other such comments should be kept for the barstool. I like dark humour as much as the next guy, but I've always found it slightly distasteful when people made such comments about someone they didn't know, especially considering the deceased's grieving family and friends are likely to stumble on the thread in the following days or weeks.

That's not how KiR would have wanted it. He was always leaving 'below the belt' comments when people were found dead with their ass up in the air.LexusSchmexus wrote:I mostly mean commenting on people's appearance when found dead on their bathroom floor with only dirty underwear on, jokes and puns about the deceased and other such comments should be kept for the barstool.

A most excellent cunt amongst cunts from whom I learned and passed on all kinds of wonderful insults such as douche nozzle, twatflannel etc.
Fly on lad.

I know. He certainly was one of the fastest on the trigger for those, but that's what I found disturbing about it. It's always easy to make snide comments about dead people you didn't know. Comments about their appearance, puns about the way they died, etc. But for some odd reason, people tend to keep quiet or are insulted and cry out when it's someone they knew. I was just thinking that maybe it's time the site/moderators took a different approach... Then again, I didn't know KIR personally so can't comment on what he would have wanted, but Rob's post makes for a good eulogy in it's own way so now I'm not too sure what to think...Captain Bonez wrote:That's not how KiR would have wanted it. Such sad news. My condolences to Peter's wife and family, and those of you here on K440 who knew him well.
RIP KiR.
