F**K*D up driving school!
time for another rant about the little Cambodian injustices of life.
my girl has been going to driving class. training on smelly, old stickshift cars (no power steering, barely any brakes), uninspired lecturers, etc. took the local chapters test and passed. Went to HQ for the written, then driving test. Written test 45 questions. She answered 44 correctly. Result = Failed! Supposedly had 5 questions in the exam that all needed to be answered correctly. WTF?
This is from the land where certificates can be bought (at this school, the price is $2000), school kids can fail a class and still pass to the next grade, and this insane driving school fails a written because of 1 question?

Don't worry, be happy.

The school costs $190. Some students just can't pass no matter how many times and end up buying the certificate ($2000+). Maybe failing the students is a money making scheme to force them to buy certificates? conspiracy theory, maybe?Jessy101 wrote:Oh so expensive school I have never seen in cambodia.

Oh I don't know about buying certificate. Do we really need to buy while we can pass the exam ?newkidontheblock wrote:The school costs $190. Jessy,
Can you give us any insights as to what questions are in the written test at a Cambodian driving school?
eg, what should a driver do when he sees the sign below in front of him on the road?

Did your girl ask you for the USD2,000 to get the license?
I certainly didn't pay $2,000 to get the licence 10 years ago. I think it all cost around $100, including driving hours and extra. I had no problem with the "driving" test examination.

some khmer do have money! for the khmer who thinks nothing about buying a land rover or other high end car, buying a certificate might not seem like much. especially if they've failed to pass 8 or 10 + times.
as for my girl, it was partly my idea. one of the job prospects involves driving a company car.
anyways, she's smart but a bit distracted these days. will be taking the exam again in a few weeks. no extra fee involved to retake.
just the annoyance of showing up early to the place, then getting a testing time. passing the written, then waiting some more for the driving, then taking the driving. eg. all day affair.

No hard feelings, but this sounds like BS. She failed the test. What's the problem? You want people who don't comply with the already low standards to pass the test?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I've sat the test properly. I'm pretty sure she failed more than one question. You can get one question wrong in each section of 5. Get 2 wrong in the same section, and even if every other question is correct throughout then you've failed.
It's something like another $15 to resit it the next week.
I know all this, because that happened to me when I didn't pay attention to the crap photocopy they give you and missed some street signs on the right of way questions.
