Power Issues
Just very recently from around 9pm or so until the wee hours of the morning i get power issues at my house. Maybe every few minutes you can hear the fans slow down and the lights dim, then less than a minute later everything speeds back up to normal speed. It's kind of fucking annoying but after living in this part of the word for so long i just take it in my stride.
The most annoying thing though is the AC in my bedroom isn't getting enough power, so it can barely run. I turn it on an hour or so before i plan to go to bed to get the room nice and cool, but the thing is just pumping out hot air until maybe around 3 - 4 am when the power stops acting like a weak cunt and it can actually run properly.
We told the landlord about this and she's all like, "It happens at my house, too" which is just down the alley. It's not my AC causing the power problems as this happens for hours during the evening before i've even turned the AC on.
You think some fucking cockbox is stealing my power, general power issues in the area, or it's just the hot season and everyone's using AC causing a power drain in the area?
I usually go to bed pretty late and noticed yesterday the AC finally managed to stay on around 4am. My THC addled brain thought that maybe as it's around 4am the yokels are starting to rouse, turn off their AC, thus freeing up some power?
Any ideas?

Do you live in Siem Reap?
In my guest house we get power cuts that last a second all the time. After they're finished the fans speed up and the lights get brighter, but after 10 seconds they drop back down again.
Broadband is also slower than dial up was 15 years ago.

No, I'm at the very southern end of PP near wat sansam kosal. It's just gone 3:30am and the power is still dipping. I've never had the power go off for a second like you do, but once in a while the power has gotten so low that the lights look like theyre nearly off and the fans look like theyve been turned off and are coming to a stop, only for the power to come blazing back on. When that starts happening, i turn the TV off.

Power has been going on and off all morning today in my Sihanoukville neighborhood. Haven't noticed anything that would indicate voltage drops or spikes when it's on though.

There is probably something wrong with the AC or wiring or both check the power supply. My panasonic air conditioner uses a power supply that has an output of 24 volts DC and the AC input for the that power supply can be FROM 85 to 264 VAC.
Doubt the VAC is dipping below 85 V
I'm at the PP Ta Khmao southern boarder don't have problems like that

I'm in the same area. No issues.Captain Bonez wrote:No, I'm at the very southern end of PP near wat sansam kosal. It's just gone 3:30am and the power is still dipping. Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
We had exactly as Captain B describes a couple of years back. Voltage went up and down every 10 mins or so from 90v to 200v It was a local transformer and it took about one week for them to do. But maybe no one has reported it so the power company are not even aware they should fix?

Spoke to an electrician friend of mine today and explained what i said here about the lights dimming, fans slowing down etc and he also said it's most likely the transformer. Got the girlfriend to ask the neighbors if they experience the same thing with the power as we do, and they do as well. So the GF is currently on the phone to EDC explaining that ours and the neighbors power is fucked and to come check out the transformer (ប្លែង Plang) quick fucking sharp as it's doing the 'dimming' thing right now as i speak.Juan King wrote:We had exactly as Captain B describes a couple of years back. The operator just said that they're sending an electrician round to scope it out now. Hope this cunt doesn't want any cashish.
I rented a place down that way last year - same issue with the power fluctuations.
Best, was driving Norodom and the whole road - shops, streetlights, everything - dimming out and returning to too bright in around a 1 second repeating cycle.
Impressive, EDC, impressive.

LOL, as in the transformer isn't big enough to handle the load in that area, so the voltage is sagging.it's most likely the transformer
Those dimming lights are where someone's AC, fridge, or industrial motor is trying to start up, and because the voltage is too low, it can't. Basically it short-circuits while it tries, further sucking the grid dry, and the extra heat stress will drastically reduce it's life too.
If EDC do nothing, and I'm guessing they won't, you need a voltage stabiliser. Remember to look at peak current, and then some, to get the VA of stabiliser required.

Bonez, just get the EDC to put in a 3 phase connection for that "thing".

Power is still retarded and being super lame. I took a photo earlier of the meter, unfortunately i wasnt quick enough to capture it when it was registering around 159v, but still 171v is still crap because i've been told anything under 180v and things stop running. Now i understand why my fridge is de-fucking-frosting and my AC sounds crippled. At my friends house he was getting about 224v the lucky bastad.
Fucking cunts at EDC keep saying the power is fine and everyones getting 220v which is quite blatantly a lie and they refuse to do anything about it

If you don't like it do what I did: move to a real country. Nothing will ever be right where you are. Thirty years and billions in aid proves it. They can't even stay between the lines when driving. You expect them to fix an electrical system??
If you're reading this you made poor life choices.
