Depressants do not necessarily make one depressed - that is a common misaprehension. They supress the central nervous system. A doctor friend once told me that, in very broad terms, it could be said that alcohol will 'reduce' your mood. That is to say, if you drink when happy you will probably brcome less so. And if you drink when unhappy, you may become less unhappy, which, I guess, is where the phrase drowning one's sorrows comes from.RainMan wrote:Alcohol is a depressant... but the first couple of hours are great.

The above quote is quite accurate. Alcohol regulates the human condition. I disagree with the part about it making the happy less happy. But the part about lessening the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" is accurate. There is nothing that 16 beer will not cure, as I always say.

This is true. If you have nothing to live for it's time to reassess your direction to give yourself something.Rib wrote:I think a man dies when he has nothing to live for. If you have nothing, no love or no hope, your mind will tell your body this, and your body will shut down. Then you will die. So it is best not to be depressed. You can log on to the internet and type complete bullshit if you want. It makes me feel a little bit better.
Perception is also a key. Whilst you may think no one cares etc there are very few cases where this is actually true.
I'm an advocate of assisted suicide but only for those of sound mind. We're talking people with terminal conditions where the quality of life is seriously impaired.
i agree and believe perception is everything. it is all mostly in a head as a result of enviroment and previous events and choices. so reassessing the enviroment and giving yourself puposes (even small ones like arguing with people on the internet about the price of a pineapple) can make a huge difference. like someone mentioned a while ago everyone is prone to depression so it is all about not letting yourself go down that path.Gin&Tonic wrote:This is true. I am a reporter for the Post doing a story on depression among expats in Cambodia. I am looking to talk with someone who has dealt with depression here. If you're interested, please message me. Anonymity will be respected if preferred.
Cheers,

At one time there were many posters here suffering from repression but they are all cured now . They all post on another forum now.
Hey, and don't mention my name , or I might get banned.

What exactly does 'having nothing to focus on' mean? It's a strange concept, this notion that we have to be busy all the time. I am never happier than when I'm doing absolutely nothing, a cup of tea to hand, letting the latest book I'm reading fall onto my chest . . . Is that a life unfulfilled?

So reading SCC's posts is like taking an anti-depressant pill then? Is that what you are saying?HsRob wrote:it is all mostly in a head as a result of enviroment and previous events and choices. so reassessing the enviroment and giving yourself puposes (even small ones like arguing with people on the internet about the price of a pineapple) can make a huge difference.

That is called relaxing. You do that after your focusing. You cant relax all of the time, and you cant focus all of the time. I like a balance of focus, relaxationalanclarke72 wrote:What exactly does 'having nothing to focus on' mean? It's a strange concept, this notion that we have to be busy all the time.
