Well it is nice to see that everyone has had a nice go at the owner of the Riverside Bistro. Some the comments I feel are out of line, but then, each to his own. But I would like to correct some misinformation posted by Bluetonguedskink; get your days right. The Riverside owner was home Sunday night the 21st and Monday morning the 22nd, trying to get rid of a bad cold and sinus infection. Yes, he got drunk on Street 51, but not those days!
I have known the owner, without naming names, to protect the guilty?/innocent?, since 1995.
And yes, he has an alcohol problem, but then a lot of expats in PNH and Cambodia share that same hiccup in Life! He has told me many times, that it is his main problem, but is slowly learning to control it/fight it??. His biggest enemy is Jagermeister, like eating potato chips, you can't just have one!
Going back to the incident on St. 51/Sorya Mall location, there is very good chance that these 4-5 Khmers, were the same ones drinking off his tab earlier at a drinking establishment that will remain anonymous!
He has a good heart, but has been taken advantage of by expats and locals alike because of his kindness - but after 20+ years of hard work and determination, he has three successful businesses in Cambodia! I would like to hear if some of the previous contributors to this forum can say the same or even come close, other than running their mouths.
He is my Friend and I will be the first to tell him he has a problem and/or is acting like a knucklehead, but then that is what real friends are for! If any of you can do the same, good on you! Sometimes the squeaky wheel does get oiled!
As for his businesses - the Riverside Bistro has good food, good music and yes, his lovely staff tend to get married, sponsored or poached, because of their beauty, English language skills and work skills, his new restaurant - Sunset Blvd. - with a 50's & 60's décor, across the river is catching on, and doing well, again, good looking ladies, good music and good food, as for his antique shop, a great collection of art, statues, pottery and related antiques from SE Asia, China, Afghanistan and Cambodia.
Enough of me. Bottom line - you see him, tell him Hi, you might be surprised!
