American tourist Justin Alan Bauch tried for bag snatching
I'm a cambodian prisoner from PreySar prison. I see this Justin everyday. Didn't know his full name until I came on K44 forum.
He's in Bloc D1. Always walks around topless in shorts when the prison uniform is now orange (it was previously dark blue). Looks weird but hey anyone who just arrive here looks weird, lost, scared, etc. At least the foreigners for sure !
The story he tells here is that the bag "was in my room and I didn't know anything about it". Funny how so many people live in total denial. And believe the others to be stupid enough to believe a story that means in other words : "someone stole and bag. Then broke open my room and put the latter on my bed". Yeah sure. Right....
I read here that he snatched the bag because he had no money. Well in my world if you have no money : you work.
Anyway, my friend from the office told me he went to the court today so he'll be sentenced soon. My country is sadly filled with people who chose stilling/gambling instead of earning.
The fact that some foreigners who could/should show the path to righteousness behave all the same makes me mad. He'll be sentenced ? Fuc...ing hope so, I won't be sad about it.
As said above : don't do the crime if you can't do the crime

Cool. We have a K440 correspondent on the spot in Prey Sar.
What can you tell us about the other 440 villains there?

Internet facilities in Prey Sar? A Khmer poster with excellent English and the the user name "Sokh"?scobienz wrote:Cool. We have a K440 correspondent on the spot in Prey Sar.

Seems legit.
Internet at Prey Sar via smartphone. The English is interesting - idiomatic, native-speaker accurate, but in the last para he makes a spelling mistake based on phonetics ("stilling" instead of "stealing"). I'm guessing this is actually a barang, though. Hope he sticks around, he should have a lot to tell.sorrynothingpersonal wrote:Internet facilities in Prey Sar? https://www.cambodiadaily.com/archives/ ... son-61422/The mobile phone burn-off comes about six months after Prey Sar hired a private company to install equipment to jam mobile phone signals, effectively ending that mode of communication.
“With the system, both prisoners and officials here cannot communicate through mobile phones,” Mr. Kun said. “Since we have had the mobile phone jamming system we have noticed that contact through mobile phones has reduced significantly.”

Apparently the system doesn't work......like everything in Cambodiasorrynothingpersonal wrote:https://www.cambodiadaily.com/archives/ ... son-61422/The mobile phone burn-off comes about six months after Prey Sar hired a private company to install equipment to jam mobile phone signals, effectively ending that mode of communication.

“With the system, both prisoners and officials here cannot communicate through mobile phones, [...]" Thanks for making me laugh. In prison it doesn't happen often. If you believe what's written in the newspapers of a country where 100% of TV channels and informations are controlled and often faked, you're in trouble
I'm not a "native-english" but thanks for thinking that I just come from a family that traveled and know what the outside world looks like. Most of the cambodians "know" foreigners through TV and sex tourists and they put y'all in the same bag.
Anyway, yes the whole area is heavily jammed. First test they did was a joke. Their first generation of jammers where sending waves that were bouncing on the walls and we could still easily get a signal by moving patiently a modem around until finding a good spot. They installed new jammers a while ago and it got much worst. Close to impossible to get a 3G signal. But still, some days the signal goes through : strength of jamming seems to be highly irregular like anything in Cambodia. No pattern, no logic, no rule. Whatever newspapers say to save the face, the truth is always far messier and dirtier than what they say. A news article is what, and only what is fed to the outside world. And as always, if you tell a lie big enough a keep repeating it, after a while it while "become" the truth.
Can't tell much about other prisoners. I know some first names but usually not family names. Loads of nigerians here. Advice to the black population reading me : get out of the country or you'll end up here. The basic cambodian have no more respect for the proles farmers than for the blacks. Basic dumb racism. They arrest one drug user or dealer and put all his friends and family in jail even if they did nothing wrong. The prison was built for a few hundred prisoners and we are close to 4k now. Living in 40x175 cm at best. Non stop noise, dirtiness like you can't even imagine it. Insect the size of thumb dead in the "soup". Dirty rice served in stinky buckets filled with a shovel, etc, etc. Paradise on earth I tell you.
But still, I'm here for 9 years and things got better. We have very little water, but clean. Electric power for 5 to 20 $ depending on the bloc chiefs (prison is a huge dirty business and after stealing your house, your land, your bank account, your freedom, etc. they suck you dry every month of everything your family or wife can send to help you, literally : survive. And believe me, it's not easy.

What are you in for Sokh Siem? And can you provide any pictures of life inside?
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.
