Cheers guys
If possible, I'd like to complete all this and then just run it by Raz's chap just to confirm it's all kosher.
Yes we have this all in hand.OP: I really wouldn't bother with an agent. Study the wording of the refusal letter. Make sure you provide evidence that proves she has access to funds here ... it sounds like you already have this.
After being refused on two points in 2013, I went completely overboard with evidence, going so far as to provide pay slips and bank statements going back three years, support letters from employers past and present, a ton of photos etc etc ... leave no point unsupported by evidence.
This too - we'll be staying with my mum. This may have already been suggested (don't have time to read the whole thread right now), but we have always included in our applications a well written letter of invitation from my parents stating that we will be staying at the family home for the duration of our stay as well as the reason for the visit, e.g. something along the lines of we are getting old
If possible, I'd like to complete all this and then just run it by Raz's chap just to confirm it's all kosher.

I always wonder if they accept "available funds" as opposed to "credit funds". Many people in business may not have a substantial amount in credit at any time but working capital includes the amount of overdraft limit.andyinasia wrote:I'm ready to take my wife to the UK to see her in-laws whom she's never met. We only have a small window of opportunity in late Nov/early Dec, so I need this visa to go through. She was rejected when we applied in 2011 because we had insufficient funds in the bank, but I'm certain we have everything in place to assure the embassy this time.
So which agent do you recommend to ensure the paperwork is all in order and will do it for a reasonable cost?
Thanks.

The frustrating thing was that they refused to give me any hint as to how much would be sufficient until belatedly informing how much wasn't. I understand how the system can be abused but still felt it was a bastard thing to do.

I've always found the UK easy for visas for my wife. All we've ever provided is the application and six months bank statements for our joint account. Then you get the two minute interview where they have to confirm you're not an Islamic militant and other such nonsense.
I think as long as they can see you're not potless, the relationship dynamics are "normal" and your partner can last a two minute interview without saying fuck, sexasize or size-a-bok then it's a cake walk.
The French embassy were far more challenging/incompetent, we still got the visa first time but lots of inconsistent information and wasted time.

This is an interesting thread. I am not sure my reply should start another thread as I don't want to hi-jack AiA's Op. My understanding is that it is easier to apply for a tourist visa for my Khmer wife with the French Embassy than it is with the UK Embassy. My wife and I have 'transcripted' our Cambodian wedding certificate with the French Consular Services in PP. All is required for the tourist visa to France is the usual paperwork and an interview, and the visa application may be fee exempt. This contrasts with the UK visa having to go through VFS and various fees. The application for a tourist visa to Australia (wife sponsored by husband, an Australian national) appears to be amongst the most cumbersome, again having to go through VFS and copious documentation, in addition to a refundable sponsor deposit of $5000 to $15000 (published) or at the discretion of the Australian DIBP. Any views/experiences from dual or multi-national K440er would be greatly appreciated. (Moderators are welcome to relocate this thread if required).starkmonster wrote:I've always found the UK easy for visas for my wife ... post truncated ... ^ Posters have been extremely helpful both here and by PM, and I think I've got all the data I need to start the process. I'm quite happy therefore for the thread to take a few twists and turns and for it to become a helpful thread for sharing info about getting visas to other countries.

I would do this.
The forms are not hard, but how you present things is imortant.
Raz gave me invaluable advice in 2006, free of charge... ok he was loosing lots to me at the poker table at the Red Fox at the time, so it probably cost him, therefore not really free.
Once you know what you are doing it is easy. Take him up on his kind offer.
I will warrant that he has only made this offer because he knows you are a genuine application with someone who can do most of the work.
good luck.
I agree with others..... if you really loved your wife you would take her there during the two decent weeks of weather in next August.
cheers
LJ
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Funding available for the trip. If the whole trip all inclusive will cost you about $5k and you have funds of about $7-8K the likeliness of it being refused is high as it is seen depleting majority of your savings. Also if you are receiving any pensions, welfare payment or any government payments use it to benefit an non British citizen then your application is almost 99.99% will be refused - John the expert!
