Good luck Andy, be persistent if it doesn't work at the 1st (well, 2nd) attempt.
They will be interested in the fact that you yourself have a career here and will want to return to it, don't just bring evidence about her but also about your couple as a unit, such as rental contract of the house , ownership of house or appartments in your name, cars etc. It worked for me for a schengen visa.
Agent for securing UK tourist visa
VFS is the Indian owned company that seems to have cornered the market in visa processing around the world. They got the contract for the UK applications in PP last year. In fact all applications are determined by the Embassy staff, VFS only process the submission and return of the papers (and charge a hefty fee for same). And all UK applications are sent to the UK Embassy in Bangkok, not at the PP Embassy. Prior to VFS being involved, the UK Embassy in PP did the same job for free!
The UK Embassy do have a bit of a reputation for being sticky, they tend to be a lot more demanding than the Schengen mob, blame the Daily Mail! I know of some long-standing wives with impeccable credentials being refused. Genuine cases will always be resolved on a second application, however. And UK applications should be turned around in two weeks. The worst part is that you dare not buy the tickets until you have the visa and you miss some good deals.

Yes you can go to Bangkok and submit for free but I guess it will cost more than £59 to get there and back !
Even in Bangkok all visa applications must be submitted through VFS, and they will charge their fee.104 wrote:Yes you can go to Bangkok and submit for free but I guess it will cost more than £59 to get there and back !
How much you have in the bank doesn't count.Your wife will have to show a regular amount of money going in each month.
The criteria is way more difficult now,my wife has been to the UK 5 times over a 7 year period, each time for 6 months and always returning on the date she promised but last year she was refused a visa.I went to the UK on my own and she re applied to join me at a later date and was again refused.

i think it's interesting that they granted such in the first place...first time we applied was was 6 months and they knocked it on the head, the length of time being the sticking point...resubmitted for 3 no problems...mind you this is the aussies and it's a few years back...Birdy wrote:How much you have in the bank doesn't count.Your wife will have to show a regular amount of money going in each month.

either way i think they tend to be tough on the need for such lengthy "tourist" stays...
He's been in his room 35 years...time to let him out!

The embassy in Phnom Penh did not make decisions over visas (at least not from 2009 til VFS took over the processing), applications were sent to Bangkok for a decision and you had to pay a courier fee for this.
Previous applications for my wife (2013,2014) have taken far longer than two weeks.
OP: I really wouldn't bother with an agent. Study the wording of the refusal letter. Make sure you provide evidence that proves she has access to funds here ... it sounds like you already have this.
After being refused on two points in 2013, I went completely overboard with evidence, going so far as to provide pay slips and bank statements going back three years, support letters from employers past and present, a ton of photos etc etc ... leave no point unsupported by evidence.
And the VFS office for UK applications is closed on Fridays (although the Australian one isn't. Same floor, same company)
AiA it will cost you nothing if you bring your application to my office for a review. I have native Australian and American lawyers with an expert from the UK working with me. It's all about qualifying for the visa.
May I ask what qualifications and experience this "expert" has to be giving advice on UK visas?raz wrote: an expert from the UK working with me
This may have already been suggested (don't have time to read the whole thread right now), but we have always included in our applications a well written letter of invitation from my parents stating that we will be staying at the family home for the duration of our stay as well as the reason for the visit, e.g. something along the lines of we are getting old and would like to see our grandchildren etc etc. Also a couple of character references from respected people. None of this is required but has never done us any harm (no refusals).
Good luck.
Good luck.
