Yeah, but there were never this many businesses in existence there to be for sale.dsl25 wrote:
Chatting with business owners in this sector reveals another side of those figures.
Been recently in SHV and I've never seen so many businesses for sale down there.
.
High season traditionally starts somewhen in November. Restaurant and bar owners always complain even though they might be correct with their observation of dwindling customers. This has merely something to do with increased competition and increasing numbers of Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean and Japanese nationals. These people do not frequent western establishments. This Charming Man wrote:Is high season taking a while to arrive this year? A few restaurant and bar owners have told me that the start of the high season seems to be pushed back further and further every year,

after 12 years of business here i do not tend to put much science into the month to month figures.but business is up on an average of some 15% year on year, this year 2015 will however be lower than 2014.however the growth we have experienced in those 12 years far out weigh one slow year, i think its good generally that we do take a small break as it gives us time to ensure we have the right procedures in place for the future.increased competition has far out weighted the increase in tourist numbers this year so we will need to get smarter and more effective in what we do or lose the battle.for us we have found out where most of our customers are coming from and its far different than it was 12 years ago,so we need to adjust our product and services to suit the customers.

People spend foolish amounts of money on some crappy bar in a dead end corner, think they are going to make it all back selling draft at 1.50 a glass and have their new local girlfriend run it whilst they return from their two month stay in the KOW to go back home to work, their life's savings stuck here. Holiday madness.vladimir wrote:The one quote about Cambodia that is eternally true.dsl25 wrote:Been recently in SHV and I've never seen so many businesses for sale down there.

This year seems pretty much the same as any other year - September is usually the doldrums and October usually marks the beginning of the onset of the trade winds. There is a gradual increase through November and December before a marked spike in January. Feb and March mimic November and December in the downside of the shoulder and mid April (the end of Khmer New Year) marks the beginning of the Low Season - usually through to early mid July. Mid July to end of August may see a mini increase but not always - and sometime it is very mini - prior to the return of the September doldrums. It is possible to have a relatively good month in low season and a relatively poor month in high season - both for no apparent reason but neither of these seems to occur with sufficient frequency to have any real impact on the overall trend.

Ha, these are the French. They always go on holiday in August (for some unknown reasons they don't make any compromises here) - when the weather in France is nice they go to Cambodia where it rains like shit .carpejugulem wrote:. Mid July to end of August may see a mini increase but not always -
In my (somewhat limited experience) I'd say that's correctcarpejugulem wrote:This year seems pretty much the same as any other year - September is usually the doldrums and October usually marks the beginning of the onset of the trade winds.
