PJ Prison v Prey Sar
It's probably an old topic, but a comment in the thread about the ten Koreans being deported after a stay in PJ Prison got me curious as to what this place is, and how it differs from Prey Sar. I seem to recall also that David Fletcher is in PJ.
Does anyone know much about it? While conditions in Prey Sar seem appalling, this article (admittedly quite old) seems to suggest it's an easy stretch and the delinquent upper classes who are convicted can pay to be transferred there from Prey Sar.
Has anyone been inside there?

As I recall, Lucky Lucan's alter ego wrote up a nice, well-researched front page article on the Phnom Penh prison system some years ago. Maybe he will be kind enough to provide a link to it.
..and if you disagree with me, you are one billion times WORSE than HITLER!!!
G&T - not sure abt a Facebook page, but there was this blog from Prey Sar that ran for a very brief while:

PJ prison is basically a replacement for the old demolished BC (pronounced:BaySee) prison. It's a prison for the connected and people with money.......you have to pay in order to get a place in there, and the conditions are of course much, much better compared to Prey Sar where prisoners have to drink their own urine.

That's correct....the prison was between this ugly administrative building and the building with the green roof.
I just couldn't find another picture.

In the old days, I recall visiting someone that managed to be jailed at a nearby jail infirmary building on street 63.
The visit parlor was quite surrealist as we drank a few beers in the front court that was giving directly on the street without any gate and seemingly no guards..

For better understaning…….it looked like that (about):
Red = Walls
Green = the old police headquarter
Blue = Prison administration
Yellow = Prison block A and B
Violet = old immigration
Pink = fence
White = old Cambodian pimp and whore village (doesn't exist anymore, I guess)
Entrance was on corner of 63 and 154. The police headquarter had the entrance on street Jayavarman

A big chunk of that white area was the Monivong Hospital which was completely run down and barely used. But at the back on the ground floor adjacent to the police station boundary there were two cells where prey saw prisoners were held. You could pay to live there if you claimed to be ill, and paid to be ill.
It was all knocked down a few years after the Pasteur buildings. Last time I went there was on grand final morning about six years ago to see Grant's body in the bathroom. The entry to the hospital was about halfway down the white area on 63.

Photos I took spring 2006 of the Monivong Hospital neighborhood. One of my staff at Jungle Bar lost her family home there.ken svay wrote:A big chunk of that white area was the Monivong Hospital which was completely run down and barely used. Don't blame me I voted for Sanders
Nice photos, I can't remember the houses. The cells were at the back against the police station boundary in the southern corner. Luckily the city is now blessed with more car parking spots and some mattress shops. I assume the land belongs to you know who , who is actually the bag man for you know who.
That area has changed so much yet if you look at the GSM nowadays the area is reverting to form. It's shit.

The monthly articles in Bayon Pearnik by a Prey Sar inmate were quite a good read a while back. They have stopped now - I wonder if he was released. Anyone know who it was writing those?
