Khmer Times' T. Mohan's editorial plagiarism pandemic
Check the syntax of Khmer Times' rebuttal. There is no way it was written by Parkhurst, despite the name at the bottom. A pound to a penny Mohan wrote it and had the editor claim it because he knew if it was published under the Mohan name people would immediately head to the Malaysian Star to see if the rebuttal first appeared there.

I thought it was an open secret...scobienz wrote:It's hard to know what its purpose. It clearly isn't a sustainable business, but then again neither are PPP or CD, from what I hear and it would be interesting to better understand who finances them and why also.
ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
There were two very interesting items in Thursday's KT, when they were apparently unaware of the article that would appear in that day's edition of the CD.
The first was a purported letter to the editor by an "Interested observer, Phnom Penh." It urges the govt. to be more aggressive and reactive against the opposition than in its current campaign. It blames the CNRP for the current social unrest and disruption and says their reps are spending much more time in the provinces than the CPP, wooing the rural vote. The letter was given full page status.
When I read the article, I immediately noticed the blatant similarity in content and style to pieces published and written by Mohan before he was exposed for plagiarism and supposedly withdrew from further contributions.
On the facing page, there was a full page editorial under Parkhouse's name on the subject of media freedom in Cambodia. Some of it is ambivalent, but it essentially states that Cambodia enjoys far greater press freedom than most Asian nations and that govt. criticism of the media is mainly directed at US funded outlets, like VOA and Radio Free Asia.
Is it coincidental that both pieces appeared at the same time that the KT was accused of requesting donations from pro-CPP sources to continue its operations?
This is the first time that the KT has taken an open stance in support of the CPP since Mohan's official withdrawal from active involvement. It gives serious credibility to the content of the leaked texts.
I buy and read the CD, PPP and KT daily. The KT is getting harder to find, as many of the news stands no longer stock it. In recent times, almost all of the special features have been discontinued, the size of the publication has been reduced substantially and they are even using a cheaper, inferior quality paper.
It all seems to add up.

Well spotted. This is part of the piece from the mysterious 'Interested Observer'.
It has Mohan all over it . . .
The opposition’s tactics are time-tested – disrupt, take to the streets, participate in anything and everything associated with or deemed as anti-establishment and keep the government occupied with apologetics and polemics instead of governing.
Come elections, this gets even worse and too much time and effort is placed on reacting to clarify and nullify these theatrics and rhetoric instead of focusing its energy on the moral and professional obligation of governing.
The opposition, instead of using its strength in parliament to engage the government and the ruling party in bipartisan politics, has on the contrary engaged in partisan politics to tear apart the political fabric of the country.
Threats from the opposition on suppression etcetera should not be even uttered – for even the most deranged of them to do so even before the first ballot is cast is tantamount to destabilizing the nation.
Interested observer,
Phnom Penh.

Hey, come on, I know a lot of Khmers who use the words tantamount, apologetics, and polemics.

It's interesting that the "letter to the editor" author above complains of partisan politics intended to "tear apart the political fabric of the country."
In March 2014, a Khmer Times editorial, presumably written by Mr. Mohan, argued that corruption in Cambodia threatened to "tear Cambodia's social fabric apart at its seams."

Although previous attention focussed on Mohans plagiarised editorials, it was a well known fact in the newsroom that he was also the author of many of the letters to the paper too.

Who gaf. They are a shitty little newspaper that entered the market at a time when newspapers are struggling to survive. Why? They offer no valid different viewpoint to the other EL papers here, except everyone knows they steal, cheat and lie. I feel sorry for the better people who work there that struggled through a truly incompetent education system, who really want to make their country a better place for ALL.Stramash wrote:Although previous attention focussed on Mohans plagiarised editorials, it was a well known fact in the newsroom that he was also the author of many of the letters to the paper too.
Why does the KT even exist? Because the government wants them to. For what reason?

I did address it in Part 2 of my article about KT, but you're right, it didn't get nearly as much attention as the plagiarized editorials. And when the KT sort of apologized and sort of acknowledged Mohan's plagiarism, they didn't address all the faked letters to the editor. Here's Part 2 of the article again:Stramash wrote:Although previous attention focussed on Mohans plagiarised editorials, it was a well known fact in the newsroom that he was also the author of many of the letters to the paper too.

Sorry, Gav, had forgotten about part 2. Any letters to the paper of length came from either Mohan or from one of the English sub-editors. At one point I was asked to contribute too but 'politely' declined.gavinmac wrote:I did address it in Part 2 of my article about KT, but you're right, it didn't get nearly as much attention as the plagiarized editorials. T Mohan has suggested in a public Facebook post that his accounts were hacked by someone using a sophisticated device. I have responded.

Those pesky "dangerous elements" with their clever cloning gadgets. Something must be done!
"The final straw actually involved my mortal enemy vladimir, who you may or may not know is an insufferable, overposting asshat."
Hahaha . . here is the full message. Gavinmac missed the rantiest bits. This machine looks like a laptop I owned back in the early 1990s. Is he seriously suggesting that someone took the trouble to not only access his mobile and create messages for him, but also did the same to the Naga guy and Hun Manith, and effectively create a complete series of conversations between themselves? That's nuts.

This is a stand-alone solution for off the air interrogation / interception / monitoring / DECEPTION of tactical GSM communication, in a seamless way, without any cooperation with the network provider. It is RESTRICTED for Law Enforcement Agencies and Authorized Governmental Agencies and it offers them a powerful tool to intercept and track GSM communication of all types.
The device extracts easily and in short time the mobiles ID’s such as IMEI, IMSI & TMSI and allows the user in no time to identify his target mobiles and to monitor them. It offers a complete set of capabilities and advance features to allow the user to control the GSM environment and GSM communication. The user can control the level of service to the target mobiles, selectively Jam specific mobiles, perform silent calls, call or SMS on behalf of target mobile, change SMS messages "on the fly", detect change of SIM card or change of handset, and support Direction Finding system and many additional operational features.
IN SHORT, A DANGEROUS DEVICE USED BY SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY FOR INSIDOUS ACTS AND TO WHICH PHNOM PENH POST AND CAMBODIA DAILY HAVE BECOME COMPLICIT. THEY TALK ABOUT ETHICS. DO THEY HAVE ANY? ARE THEY FEELING THREATENED BY A NEW COMER LIKE KHMER TIMES? IS THE CAMBODIAN MEDIA SCENE FOR ENGLISH EXCLUSIVE FOR THE PHNOM PENH POST AND CAMBODIA DAILY? ARE THEY HIDING BEHIND HIDDEN HANDS? IS THIS WHY THEY FEAR LAWS WHICH TALK ABOUT CUBER SECURITY, DATA PROTECTION AND NGO LAW ?

Hmm, maybe the government really didn't want to start playing the hacking game. The Chinese have got some smart kids - but do really think they can take on the rotw? Then again they were already to go to war with Thailand over PV a few years ago lmao. Can you imagine it? The Thais would eat them for breakfast
I'd love if an "outside" agency ( read crazed KR fantasies - CIA, Amnesty International, annonypuss) were using these hacks to get back at all the CPP bollocks of the last couple of years. The best bit is that the hacker only released one half of the conversations. The people he hacked know this, and if they don't start playing fair, the hacker may well release the other half. Be really funny if the leaks came from a Fresh News app with a Trojan attached.
Ah, we live in hope...
