Lee Robinson
Couldn't use my old ID but knew that many of his best mates post on and read this forum, hence my coming here to write something. Back in the day Lee and I used to chat about and post on 440 a fair deal. I think the humor was what we appreciated the most.keeping_it_riel wrote:Vox
Thanks for coming back here and saying such kind words about our friend.

I'm very sorry I won't be there at any event you hold to celebrate his life. I'm sure you'll work something out that is fitting. Remember to raise plenty of Anchor cans, he did love Anchor...

I'm totally sorry that you couldn't log on under your old ID. You're back but it's truly awful in that you've returned here under the dark cloud of Lee's death. I guess the blame is down to me and I regret it. Truthfully.
I will keep you informed with the funeral arrangements and as soon as I hear what's happening I will let you know.
As of tonight, the family are on their way over. Can you PM me for more info or email mail me at [email protected].
If you don't feel comfortable doing that then maybe contact our mutual friend who normally lives in Kampot. He's here now.

I will never forget Lee. The photo you posted KIR reminds me of one crazy night at my place on the Mekong where Lee pulled out his wiggity wack dance moves while wearing my 'keep on trucking' hat - a present from el Horso. That was quite a night... He was quite a bloke, well, maybe not bloke, perhaps, guy.
I am deeply saddened by this news and my heart goes out to you all.
I, like Vox, wish I could be there to celebrate the gent and to support you all as you cope with his death.
Dan called me last night from Afganistan to tell me the sad news.
Please take care of yourselves and each other, 32 is too young. Way too young.
Emily.

I never met Lee, but Crispen was one of the reasons I kept reading 440 in the beginning (Vox, your posts were another big reason fwiw.)
I too do not know what to say, other than I am sorry I did not meet him in person. Never-the-less, I met the face he chose to show the world (and Srok Khmer) via K440 - and I would call him a friend under those circumstances.
Peace to his family, they sent a cool person into the world and in true Cambodian fashion, he has shown respect to his parents through his actions.

Is it possible he died as a result of 'bangungot'?he was found dead in his bed with no apparant foul play
In a Thai study it reported-Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome (called bangungot in the Philippines, lai tai in Thailand, and hukuri in Japan) is sudden unexpected death of adolescents and adults during sleep.
The term originated from the Tagalog word meaning "bad dream." The root of this term is the fact that survivors of bangungot often describe dreaming about falling into a bottomless pit. While experiencing this, the person is aware that he is dreaming but feels like there is something that stops him from moving and awaking.
SUDS has been cloaked in superstition. Popular belief holds that the eating of rice and sleeping just after eating are just two of the many factors said to cause the disorder. In Thailand it is particularly believed to be linked to eating rice cakes. Filipinos believe ingesting high levels of carbohydrates just before sleeping causes bangungot.
My condolences. The characteristics of victims in each of the groups were similar: 96% male, mean age 33 years, and modal time of death 3:00 a.m.

Slight change of plans. It seems that nobody from Lee's family will be coming out to Cambodia, therefore his friends will be making funeral plans.
There will be a Buddhist ceremony followed by a cremation at a local Wat. Once arrangements have been finalised, I'll post the details here and I think we're looking at a day later this week.
The wake will be at one of Lee's favourite bars - 104. I'll speak to Martin and Barry tomorrow and once again will post the details here once they have been finalised.

This was really hard news to hear. When I felt it had sunk in and I decide to write something I just read his family aren´t coming to his funeral. Well, I don´t know the details..
Lee was absoloutely unique. He had a powerful infectious personality and he would never let you down and he cared about his friends. Similar things have been said about people who´ve passed away in the past and people who may read about him who didn´t know him may read just another obituary with the same sentiments but this guy really was totally different.
And it is comforting to think that he wanted to burn out young but he loved kids so much and was a sensitive guy with a big heart and I think, realistically, harder as it is, he would´ve been an amazing father if he had have lived longer.
I´ll really, really miss this guy. A big part of me visiting Cambodia again and again has just been removed.
You were well loved Lee.
