Agincourt is loving it down here, i think hes here to stay :cheers2:
I enjoyed the photos of Prek Treng Beach at the other forum. Thanks

Are you still having issues with electricity down there?
i went down there again and spent the whole afternoon there yesterday with a khmer ladyfriend, its really nice and chilled, we were the only people there for the majority of the day, 3 khmer lads turned up at one point but thats it i think, bliss

tbh this year has been no issues at all, theres been the odd one or 2 but havent lasted longer than a minute or 2, its really improved compared to a few years ago when they were a daily occurance

brownexile wrote:Thank you all for responding. My main motivation for moving to Cambodia is the weird rules that Thailand has for Indian passport holders: due to which I've ended up on overstay. Some of you may know about what's coming for overstayers in Thailand after March 18 (blacklisting). The only other option for me (under 50. 25, to be exact) is to get an Elite visa, but I can't afford to pay 500,000 baht upfront at this point for that. I don't want to go to Cambodia with preconceived negative notions but if it really is a terrible place to live I will just hang tight for some months until I can fork over the cash for the elite visa and come back to Thailand.

That being said, break-ins do sound like cause for concern. A security system sounds reasonable enough, but will CCTV really deter them? I am not a dog person, or much of a people person for that matter. I like to live alone. What are the self defense laws/de facto situation in Cambodia? What happens if you shoot an intruder dead?

How much does a generator cost? Are these electric/UPS backups or diesel generators?

Is fiber optic internet or 3G/4G readily available?

What is the cheapest brand new car (hatchback?) in Cambodia? I have terrible memories of public transport in India and have no intentions of riding around in tuk-tuks breathing toxic air or getting drenched in the rain on motorcycle taxis.

Thank you for all your questions, I had exactly the same and now reading the replies :-)

No more baht-dollar mental conversions. I arrived at about 10PM near the golden lion and as soon as I got out of the taxi I was surrounded by touts who offered me weed, speed, heroin, cocaine, lady, man, hotel... not wanting to be too adventorous on my first day I checked into the most expensive looking hotel that I could see. The Holiday Villa Nattaya. The room was surprisingly good, for $45. The breakfast was shit. Inedible. Rented an old Toyota for the day and am staying at Otres now. Found a decent looking house near Sokha beach for $350/mo. Will move in tomorrow.

Hello, have you found new buildings at Otres ? With all the robberies I would prefer to live in a condo with security and car park...

Thank you.
