Lucky PP seems to be quite different from Lucky SR....
I spent quite a bit of time comparing prices for similar products and will periodically do it again. Not particularly stingy but with 4 mouths (6 if I count my cats), comparing prices can save a fair bit of change.

Why are people surprised at this? Lucky had been the worst supermarket for years. The most expensive, the most annoying to shop in and the crappiest customer service.
Meat is what, 40% over market prices? Chicken breast is $3/kg in local markets and it's around $4.5 at TH. I assume even more at Lucky. Veggies 50% over and so on? I've heard that lots of products are imported wholesale by Thai Huot, which then sells the products back to the other supermarkets. Why anyone shops at Lucky besides the Chinese and perhaps the Cambodian middle class is beyond me.
The tellers are also slower than molasses on a freezing day. One of my first jobs was in a supermarket as a bag boy and seriously, ONE of our cashiers/bag boys duos would probably be able to go faster and take more volume than 5 to 6 of their registers. I'm honestly not even exaggerating. I was surprised to see that even Aeon has these tiny, badly designed check out counters. Probably the one thing the Japs obviously can't design to be efficient.
Anyways, Lucky is crap, why are people acting surprised? The other places are all good in their own ways depending on the products (Pencil, Thai Huot and Aeon). Lucky has no redeeming features. I only went to the City Mall one a few times last year because it was the only place in town which still stocked reasonably priced oats.

I know it's crap. I only ever go there because it's close by to grab one or two things I need.

They have small tills in Japan but the staff are trained to scan super fast and aren't allowed on the shop floor until they consistently scan 20 items per second. They put all your items in a new basket and send you away to bag them elsewhere so you don't slow everyone else down.Probably the one thing the Japs obviously can't design to be efficient.

They should introduce that system here then. Along with not triple counting money all the time and giving a sompheak at the end of every transaction... Fine when no one is around, but when the lines are huge... Get cracking. An old school cashier could probably outscan 8 of them. They handle milk cartons and cans of peas like they're porcelain figurines, turning them carefully side to side until they get a beep. A good cashier would have 6 items scanned in that time frame. Never mind codes...
Still, I'm disappointed Aeon would go through all that work and cash yet still have checkout counters that look like they were made at some Mao-Tse-Tung steel sheet shop. Tiny cramped abominations is what they are. Even with good cashiers the workflow is severely cramped and limited.

Any faster than this and there'd be broken glass flying everywhere.

Not much chance of checking that the prices that come up are correct with her serving you - I can barely keep up with them at Lucky. Personally I don't mind the unrushed style at the check-outs here.Lucky Lucan wrote:Any faster than this and there'd be broken glass flying everywhere.

By the way, I don't have any problem with prices at Lucky - they are a private enterprise and can charge what they like. My problem is with inaccurate labeling.
It would be nice is someone on the top floor at Lucky Tower read this and did something about it.

Funnily enough, Lucky here used to have proper-sized check-out counters until recently when some genius decided to chop most of them off. A good thing those girls are so slow, I guess.LexusSchmexus wrote:Still, I'm disappointed Aeon would go through all that work and cash yet still have checkout counters that look like they were made at some Mao-Tse-Tung steel sheet shop. An Aldi-style checkout would be fun. When is Aldi coming to PP?
Checking out is super fast especially if the customer co-operates (by shoving all directly into some boxes in the trolley).
When in PP, I shop at Lucky (in the city) because the store is pleasant enough and they accept cards. Don't care much about prices because don't have to earn a living locally.
Sometimes we asked them to mind up top 10 bags, never noticed anything missing (that we knew of).

Just thought I'd revive this thread as the greedy scumbags have twice tried to diddle me in the last couple of weeks. The usual practice of price at the till being higher than that displayed.
Everyone makes mistakes, but when it happens with such regularity, you can't help thinking that it's their deliberate strategy.
