LGBT Pride Cambodia 2016
People seem to seek reasons to be offended. Just seems better to take the piss out of each other and have a laugh instead.
In this instance I don't see what the supposedly offensive post is.

Well, well, well, an enquiry about a 440 LGBT Parade and with Floats I hope.
This site becomes active in a week or so:
http://www.gaycambodianews.com/lgbt-pride-cambodia/
In the interim let's get organized with forum participants proposing our own 440 LGBT Pride Cambodia 2016 entries and:
Organizing Committee Members and their respective positions - on the committee that is.
440 Float Design and "crew" members.
As well as Floats and "Crews" sponsored by your favourite watering hole/s.
What for example should be the 440 Theme for 2016? Every festival needs a theme.
What should be the float design, costumes etc for the float sponsored by GSM?
I'm sure the active, inventive, creative, disorderly minds of the forum can develop this in to the Phnom Penh event of the year. Move over Mardi Gras Brazil and Sydney - Phnom Penh is now the place to be and 440 is the team to beat.

I think a few on here have definitely tasted the rainbow.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

I'd be interested in participating and performing in a float parade, but I need enlightening as to what is acceptable gay behaviour in public here in Cambodia. Up until now I've kept my gay life relatively private, except when I go clubbing, then I tend to open up a bit and let loose. So excuse me for sounding naive. Would the float be quite moderate-looking with guy's dressed in a casual manner while dancing to Abba or can we push the limits a bit more and wear something raunchy. I hope I can get a quick reply on this as I need to order an outfit.
Do you have a route planned for the float(s)? Most of the main roads and riverside area are so congested now that you may have to consider taking it up some of the back streets to avoid sitting in traffic. Maybe we could organize a gathering on Diamond island.
Would this be too extreme for Phnom Penh?
How I would imagine a moderate looking float to be:
Not missing the 12 hours shifts at Alcoa, Massena, NY.
I suspect this float might be a really, really bad idea. Exhibitionism is just not the Khmer way.
Whilst leashed by his mater and parading in his gimp outfit Mr Fruitcake will have a sign on him "eat me" Maybe I can sponsor something for this event?

OML - I think you're being a wee bit over-sensitive. As you have no doubt observed, pretty much everything is grist for the humour mill here, and unless it becomes overt homophobia, I see little problem in that. However, when it does, I completely agree that it needs to be called out and believe that most here would support that in all respects. But you have to allow us to make jokes.
As to how Cambodian society would react to a Mardi Gras style gay parade...I think you'd be greatly disappointed. There is a general tolerance of gay people in Cambodian society, but that tolerance is closely tied to maintaining societal norms and not forcing people into consideration of things they're not yet comfortable with. This would pretty much define the point of where they'd become upset, and hence would not in my opinion contribute positively to Cambodian society's general acceptance of homosexuality.

Indeed. Please keep in mind that, like it not, you will also be representing the wider expatriate community. Do us all a favour and forget the float idea and have a nice little garden party instead.PJC wrote:What he said.Jacked Camry wrote:OML - I think you're being a wee bit over-sensitive. Indeed. I don't think forcing western values and ideals in a country we are guests in is the done thing.
In fact going by your experience here (UNTAC) I'm surprised you've even brought this up.
Unless of course we are all due a woosh parrot.
