Unfortunately, after discussions with the landlady, Quealy's will be closing at the end of next month.
Sad news I know, but as some of you might be aware, there have been some big problems with the actual building which means that it's unfeasible to carry on the way it is. The lease actually expired last year and so we have been on a rolling month-to-month contract since then. We always knew it was going to end soon, but it's still sad that this time has come around.
There are of course going to be some great parties this coming month - we certainly won't be going quietly
A huge, huge thanks to everyone who has given their support, including all of you at Khmer440, and all the staff that have been with us. In total, we've been here for over 6 years! Not bad for a bar in Phnom Penh!
We'll keep you posted on events that are coming up, but here are a couple below to whet your appetite....
This. Is. Manchester. Part 2. Friday, 4th March
Goodbye Quealy's! Friday/Sat, 25/26th March
And remember to pop down when you feel like a burger, bratwurst or even just a beer!
Thanks for everything,
Jess x
End of an era, and the self-proclaimed worst hostess bar in Phnom Penh will be sorely missed as it was a great little drop in place to see a few familiar faces and have a chat with Jess.
As mentioned before in person, Jess, 440 will take care of a keg for each of the events you mentioned above. Will pop in and see you before then.

Still loved going there when I visited PP. Always a good round of chat and no loud music.

In fact, I think this is where I developed the bald spot on my head.

Thanks for all the responses. The long and the short of it is, I don't know what the next move is. If there is a right opportunity then I'm sure i'll go for, but I just have to figure out what the right opportunity means!
Yep, some good times were had and I'm pretty sure we can squeeze in some more this month. I kinda said to Scobienz that I would write an article about owning a bar here, hopefully we can create some more stories before I submit that.
And scoffer, what do you mean about turning into a good host? I'm pretty sure I was born to be one!
If any of you fancy bangers n mash tonight, head down from 6.30pm. Only $6 with a free beer and it's the real deal - 2 sausages, veg, mash and lots of gravy.
If not, I hope to see you for the Manchester night on Fri or the Goodbye Weekend on the 25th/26th. Thanks to K440 for sponsoring a keg!
As ever, thanks for all the support. Very much appreciated.

did you get your money back from the initial investment?
What was it two years? Longer?

Yep, all monies have been paid, and were paid within a year. I won't exactly say the bar made me millions, but I certainly didn't lose anything either.
I will have had Quealy's just under two years by the time it closes.

Quite true jess,
I think you were a closet publican doing other things to get by.
Quealy's allowed your natural talent to shine.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Jess, does the same girl who worked previously for Peadar do the barbecue for you? If so, and she's at a loose end, I might have a job for her.
I have never been a regular as such, but over the years have called in for a couple of cold cans, but always with a flame grilled hamburger, lovely. Now there are two girls? But I can remember one being there for some years now, do a good job.
Street 172 does seem to get a lot of kicking around by some posters, but I quite like the ambience a couple nights a week. Yes, Some ferals there are, a lot of the backpackers just nothing more than a pain in the arse, but there also now seems to be a constant stream, at night anyway, of middle aged western couples walking up and down the street. Oh, I also quite like dropping into Vampire bar for a couple of drinks with a couple of members of the staff.

I walked past Quealy's about a month ago one late morning. Looked like quite a civilized upmarket street relative to most of the rubbish filled piss stained streets of The Penh.
An article about running a bar in the KOW sounds like an interesting read.
