Interesting survey reported in the PPP:

It's incomplete though; it doesn't include military scholarships, many of which are given by China.

That's very interesting. I wonder who pays their fees.
My uni in Japan is desperate for overseas students (Japanese students are an endangered species), so I'd like to win some brownie points by finding a new market for them!
Mongolia has been a gold mine in recent years, but China remains champ.

Yes, that's a very important question that doesn't appear to be included in the data - what proportion are on scholarships compared to those who pay their own way?On The Buses wrote:That's very interesting. I wonder who pays their fees.
My wife recruits Khmer Japanese graduates but there are too few going round. I have one student who's been accepted for a Japanese scholarship but he's hedging, waiting to see if Australia comes calling. I get the feeling that many Cambodian students are deterred by learning the Japanese language.

It'd be interesting to get a breakdown of the subjects they go on to study. In the case of some I know, it was almost always related to Business Studies or Science, though one studied Law.
Good to see figures (percentages) of those studying abroad on a par with other countries. However, the prohibitive cost of studying in the UK, US or Australia must deter a heck of a lot of parents. One reason for the high figure of Khmer off to Australia that I knew of was that a number of them had family there. It'd be good to see more encouragement for some of the very bright, but not so well off students that Cambodia has. But alas, it is all about money.
