In the west there's taxis, or Hackney (Medallion in U.S.), allowed to pickup anywhere as in "Hail a cab" and they wait at ranks then there's "Private hire" - pre-booked only. Same rules for licemce (car and driver)but cheaper.Alexandra wrote:There is a taxi license that companies may apply for. They're dirt cheap and some people hoard them until that changes.
Bless
These Lexus "taxis" in Cambodia are actually "private hire" but I doubt they are even licensed, much like the Tuk Tuks and motodops. Could be wrong though.
Not sure if PP anytime soon will be operating the same mafia style taxi licence wars and prices that happen in the west. If so the likes of Uber and Private Hire will negate that. The London Black Cab taxis are getting their just desserts after ripping off customers for years thanks to private hire companies and particularly Uber.
Uber is available in BKK and HCMC.
If the driver owns the car (not renting it of the taxi firm) he will do ok. If he's an employee he'll earn f all. (That's in the west anyway. I'd assume it's the same economics here)
