Hey now, some of the best and most effective leaders in history have had affairs : JFK, Mandela, Castro.
You know who didn't have an affair? George W. Bush.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
Cambodia Daily courageously keeps beating the drum about the murder of Pisith Pilika while covering the ludicrous salacious phone recordings in Kem Sokha's scandal.
https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/in-m ... it-111555/
25-year-old hairdresser Khem Chandaraty, also known as Srey Mom, and under the moniker Mon Srey on Facebook, has reportedly admitted that it was her voice and Kem Sokha's voice in the recordings.
However, as the Daily reports, the initial investigation was about a defamation complaint brought by Ty Sovantha whose name was mentioned in the recordings. Instead, the police and authorities focused all their energy on ascertaining that Khem Chandaraty and Kem Sokha really had an affair.
Is there any doubt that the poor girl may have been just pressured in giving such statement?

Khom "Mon Srey" Chandaraty implicated ADHOC's staffs, a UN officer, an NGO leader and an opposition affiliated commune chief (who then implicated his political party's boss) in convincing her to lie about her affair with Kem Sokha.

And this priceless quote from Om Yien Tieng, seemingly referring to CNRP lawmaker Eng Chhay Eang and SamRainman's close lieutenant:UN, Adhoc Staff Summoned in Mistress Case
BY BEN SOKHEAN AND ALEX WILLEMYNS | APRIL 26, 2016
Five human rights workers, a U.N. official and an election organizer were on Monday summoned by Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) Chairman Om Yentieng for questioning about claims that deputy opposition leader Kem Sokha had an extra-marital relationship.
[...]
Mr. Sokha’s alleged mistress, Khom Chandaraty—commonly known by her nickname “Srey Mom”—last week accused an opposition commune chief, Seang Chet, of promising her $500 to deny the affair, an allegation that Mr. Yentieng said the official had admitted to after his arrest Sunday.
Like Ms. Chandaraty, Mr. Chet indicated that the eight other individuals now summoned were involved in the cover-up, according to Mr. Yentieng, who said he would detain the commune chief for the 48 hours allowed by law. [...]
Housekeeping note: I edited the OP's title of the thread so all Kem Sokha-Mon Srey saga updates can be filed under here.“We don’t want to be involved with the immune guy. He’s yelling like a child, having a tantrum like a child, and it’s hard to talk with him,” he said.
The Daily is keeping on unearthing past attacks on CPP officials' mistresses and other women without a hint of justice. This time they interviewed Tat Marina, who was just 15, when she was doused with acid by the angered wife of an under-secretary of State back in 1999.

Other women whose attackers have never been identified include:
Touch Srey Nich (shot in 2003)
Peou Panha Pich (shot in 2007)
https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/amid ... ut-111797/
It's good to see Tat Marina having regained a semblance of life, albeit without the justice she was denied.[...]Police never executed an arrest warrant for the wife, Khoun Sophal, and Mr. Sitha—who in 2009 claimed to have been a victim in the case—was later promoted from undersecretary of state at the Council of Ministers to secretary of state, where he remains today.
Such undisguised impunity stands in stark contrast to the recent inquiry into deputy opposition leader Kem Sokha’s alleged extramarital affairs, with anti-terrorism police investigating, an opposition official arrested and the case already in the courts.
The attentiveness by authorities in Mr. Sokha’s case has not passed unnoticed by Ms. Marina, who said in a message on Monday night that she wished authorities had carried out such a thorough investigation into the attack that left 40 percent of her body scarred.
“I still can’t get real justice. Cambodia’s judicial system is a joke,” she said from Massachusetts, where she received years of reconstructive surgery and now works at a department store’s returns desk.[...]

Unlike Cintri who have a contract to collect rubbish for the next 30 years , The Daily will soon be a part of the rubbish collected and disposed of if they don't watch out.

Though the Daily's interest in in publishing all of this at this time has much less to do with the crimes and injustice done these women than addressing the investigation of Sokha and his mistress, presumably pointing out the hypocrisy of the impunity (h/t Kevin Doyle) enjoyed by CPPers for the same and worse crimes than Sokha, thus deflecting or at least overshadowing criticism of Sokha. But they are walking a precarious line between highlighting the hypocrisy of impunity and justifying powerful married men keeping young mistresses. Should Sokha's indiscretions be backburnered because others have done it too? And what of crimes such as corruption? Everybody does that too.
I don't think it is meant to minimize Sokha's case, but rather to really point to the elephant in the room when it comes to CPP and the government.
In any case, this is still a risky thing to do and courageous to keep asking sensitive questions. At least this keeps the injustice done to those women under some spotlight.

You think so? The Daily has been ruffling feathers for a long time and occasionally take some government fed grief for it, but they are still out there, doing the same as the have always done. All other things being equal, I can't see this being the end of them. On the other hand, there is a breeze of change of late, things tightening up, Ou Virak just yetsreday hetting hit with a defamation suit (ie a warning to the rest of us), movie restrictions, HS citing a tension between peace and free expression, etc. So, you really think so...the Daily is in danger of being shuttered by the govt over this sort of reporting?Duncan wrote:Unlike Cintri who have a contract to collect rubbish for the next 30 years , The Daily will soon be a part of the rubbish collected and disposed of if they don't watch out.

Agree with the latter part, disagree with the former. The timing alone shows that this is the Daily's response to the Sokha Affair.Joon wrote:I don't think it is meant to minimize Sokha's case, but rather to really point to the elephant in the room when it comes to CPP and the government...
