I am travelling to Cambodia tomorrow Friday 8th. from Thailand. I have booked a hotel in each of Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Phnom Penh through Agoda and have paid already. However, I shall be arriving at the hotels in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh later than 6pm and wanted to confirm with the hotels that they have my reservation and that they will keep my room for late arrival. I have emailed them and the hotel in Sihanoukville has opened my email but not responded, and the hotel in PP hasn't opened the email yet after more than 48 hours. (I have an email tracking attachment to my emails). If this is normal practice in Cambodia for hotels not to respond to emails then I'll just have to turn up and hope all is in order. If it's unusual, I'm going to have to telephone them. Not a big deal, but as it's going to be their New Year I'm concerned about having to find alternative accommodation late in the evening. I can, of course, contact Agoda if there's a problem on arrival but I'm going to be on holiday and don't want the hassle.
I'd like to hear from BMs here if they are aware of this problem with hotels not responding or being slow to respond. Regards, bahtboy.
Hotels not answering emails
Yep, standard operating procedure for most businesses in Cambodia not to reply to emails, if you're really worried try ringing them.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Some of these businesses are very transparent about their no-reply policy...PSD_Kiwi wrote:Yep, standard operating procedure for most businesses in Cambodia not to reply to emails, if you're really worried try ringing them.

Just call them up. It's cheap and quick. Surely 5-10 baht phone calls are worth it.
Amazing how many people forget the original purpose of a phone.

Back in 08 I e-mailed a guy here with a tuk tuk that I had met a few years earlier, and asked if he would meet me at the airport. In 2011 I got a reply.
" Tho I am wise I have to wait like any other fool"
A few years ago I booked a guesthouse in Kampot through agoda. On arrival, they had no idea who I was or anything about my booking or money paid. Turns out they didn't have a computer, or an email address, or even internet. Turns out a relative in Phnom Penh managed the agoda bookings for them and called through bookings whenever he saw fit.
