Having said that, it's time that the Ministry of Education finally realized that all teachers should have mandatory criminal background checks.
That's fine in principal, but how can it be done practically?
Is a person supposed to go back to all the countries they have ever lived in and get some certificate from the police or something?
No, they only need a basic CRC from their own country if it was their country of residence for less than 12 or 6 months (can't remember which) prior to working in say, Vietnam. That means, if they introduced that law here, and he has been living here for 6 months, he would need a basic CRC from the Cambodian police !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a nice idea, and would get rid of a
lot of the teachers here, allowing perhaps for wages to finally go up in line with barang inflation over the last 15 years.
Not sure about anything other than the basic CRC, as the jobs I applied for in Vietnam only needed a basic one. Schools normally rely on the government's rules I think, but maybe individual schools may require a fuller check. Those aren't cheap.
