We should probably give Pannasastra the benefit of the doubt now that sniper has been exposed as a child sex offender and a liar. He says he quit his job, but for all we know they may have fired him after being tipped off about his criminal history.vladimir wrote:I would bet that PUC makes no changes to the recruitment policy. big storm today, sweep it under the carpet, carry on as usual tomorrow.
Having said that, it's time that the Ministry of Education finally realized that all teachers should have mandatory criminal background checks.

No smoke without fire. We should have read the signals better.
He did a great job acting the naive innocent role for a couple of days. Very convincing. I'm surprised he didn't try to join the Phnom Penh Players.

He said he couldn't work since breaking his leg, which seems reasonable.prahocalypse now wrote: He says he quit his job, but for all we know they may have fired him after being tipped off about his criminal history.
That's fine in principal, but how can it be done practically? Is a person supposed to go back to all the countries they have ever lived in and get some certificate from the police or something?Having said that, it's time that the Ministry of Education finally realized that all teachers should have mandatory criminal background checks.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
He said he hasn't been working since he quit due to crappy school management six months ago. The leg break looks much more recent.Lucky Lucan wrote:He said he couldn't work since breaking his leg, which seems reasonable.prahocalypse now wrote: He says he quit his job, but for all we know they may have fired him after being tipped off about his criminal history.
Maybe the leg isn't even broken but he wrapped it in a cast so that he had an excuse to not await deportation in an immigration cell when he knew time was up after being tipped off about APLE following him.
Maybe he created the "being followed" thread with a username tied to his identity to make it easy for APLE to know that he knew so they would hurry up with their arrest because he couldn't be fucked sitting around with a faked broken leg and an expired passport.
Maybe, just maybe, we should question everything at this point.
On 23rd March sniper_m4 creates the "Being followed" writing clearly that APLE is following him. On 22nd April scobienz reveals that "yesterday" (21st April) sniper_m4 was arrested.
If they found out about the thread shortly after it was written, which I'm sure they did because to them we're probably all just potential pedos, then it took almost exactly a month to co-ordinate the arrest with the Embassy, local police and APLE. Khmer New Year was during the same time so getting the proper warrants and people in place must've added some delays.
I'm guessing sniper_m4 wrote the thread because he gave up and just wanted to be arrested, and it worked.
Bless

At the very least, it should be mandatory for new hires. That's not hard to implement.Lucky Lucan wrote:He said he couldn't work since breaking his leg, which seems reasonable.prahocalypse now wrote: He says he quit his job, but for all we know they may have fired him after being tipped off about his criminal history.

I think that in Vietnam you get it from your home country or from the country where you have lived for the last 12 months.Lucky Lucan wrote:He said he couldn't work since breaking his leg, which seems reasonable.prahocalypse now wrote: He says he quit his job, but for all we know they may have fired him after being tipped off about his criminal history.

It's relatively easy to get these online. I recently needed police clearance certificates from everywhere I had lived since i was 18. The UK, Australia and NZ all did it online or via email. I'm sure most other western countries are the same.Lucky Lucan wrote:

Alternatively the schools could liaise with the Embassy of the applicant's country.

No, they only need a basic CRC from their own country if it was their country of residence for less than 12 or 6 months (can't remember which) prior to working in say, Vietnam. That means, if they introduced that law here, and he has been living here for 6 months, he would need a basic CRC from the Cambodian police !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Lucky Lucan wrote:That's fine in principal, but how can it be done practically? It's a nice idea, and would get rid of a lot of the teachers here, allowing perhaps for wages to finally go up in line with barang inflation over the last 15 years.
Not sure about anything other than the basic CRC, as the jobs I applied for in Vietnam only needed a basic one. Schools normally rely on the government's rules I think, but maybe individual schools may require a fuller check. Those aren't cheap.
