As you know, I am not disputing whatever the relevant courts might decide - I am disputing the accuracy of what they understand (your word) the UK charges to be. I am merely pointing out that the reports differ. This may be down to shoddy journalism. I really wouldn't know. But there is a discrepancy in the reports.

You also said this is "worrying." What are you worried about, that NGOs are framing an innocent man?

No, you are putting words into my posts again.
I like truth, so I am worried when there appear to be differing versions.

OK, but aside from this case, your past post suggest that you are generally worried about NGOs in Cambodia framing innocent men on child sex charges, is that fair?springrain wrote:No, you are putting words into my posts again.

No, it's not fair at all.
GM, I'd like you to show me where I said, or even insinuated, that. Go ahead, please.

I thought a side topic of the last couple of pages was the quality of CD's reporting of this case, and that springrain's post was in that vein. I also thought that springrain's earlier contributions to this thread were helpful and supportive. I do not see the issue with springrain here.

LTO, thanks for your input. Much appreciated. I have no idea why GM suddenly decided to go on the attack, either. I hope this can be cleared up - this menace has been arrested and that is that.
Perhaps GM confused me with another poster - I don't know about that. I hold no grudges against GM and I hope he continues to investigate things.
Thanks again & much obliged.

It is kind of an amazing tale the way the Daily tells it. If this is to be believed, the immigration department is keeping track of everybody that makes a visa extension enquiry but doesn't follow up on it. That the police put out manhunts on such people. That "the locals" are tipping off police about where visa violators eat and drink. And only after they mounted a successful operation to catch this one guy with a 3 month expired visa in a restaurant on Pub Street, did the discover that by sheer dumb luck they had caught themselves a wanted pedo (who just happened to have been featured on 440 and CEO for a week before.)In May 2015, a travel agency contacted the immigration department and requested a business visa for Mr. Midgley, and the department issued one for him, he said.
Then, in early February, the same travel agency requested a visa extension on Mr. Midgley’s behalf but was instructed to see that his passport was renewed first, as it was due to expire at the end of the month, he said.
When the immigration department did not hear from Mr. Midgley or the travel agency, Maj. Gen. Heisela said he ordered authorities to search for him in Siem Reap.
Mr. Midgley was arrested last week when locals tipped off police to his whereabouts, he said.
“If he had simply…overstayed in Cambodia, we would have banned him [from entering Cambodia] for two or three years, but this guy was involved in pedophilia,” he said.

I might have. I see that you have made some anti-NGO comments but not in the pedophile-chasing context. I just didn't know why you would be worried and bothered by a Cambodian police official being quoted as saying something inaccurate, that happens all the time.springrain wrote:

He has already been found guilty. He was tried in absentia and got 6 years.gavinmac wrote:Well, the Cambodian police aren't charging him here, they are simply reading/reporting to Cambodian reporter what they understand the UK charges to be. The accuracy of a Cambodian's understanding of the UK charges doesn't have any bearing on the truth of the truth of the UK charges.

The first word of the thread title (and the first word of the OP) are a spoiler.lurcio wrote:He has already been found guilty.
