You sure you working stuff out right?
Ok, this is a Wetherspoons, but similar specials can be found at normal pubs. The pub across the road from the Ship has a Tuesday night special: all real ales are £2.25 a pint to attract people in for the football shown on TV.
Kiwi-fruit: I bought a six pack of Kiwi from Tesco on Eccleshall Road for 69p.
Is living in Cambodia better than living in a first world country?

I'm not sure whether it's a major source but Kiwi Fruits are grown in the UK now. Many are also grown in France, Italy and Greece. So they don't need to be air-freighted.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Same here in LA. Closest pub has $4 Guinnesss draft most every night. Admittedly it's hard to find a cheap beer but not hard to find a good one.scobienz wrote:I got the Guinness one wrong. I think it it all boils down to who you know. ..if you are just a standard barang wanting to live the same as your home country. Yeah its expensive. .,but if you know the right people its hard to even pay for a meal or a drink.. however supermarkets are expensive no matter who you are. Khmer or barang.
Don't mention the Giant Panda in the room.

That's still cheaper than I would have guessed.scobienz wrote:

I'm out of touch, but do believe European supermarkets are still considered good value for food, even in the UK.
Re. the kiwis I paid $7.20 for four figs at Lucky yesterday. Trafficked from Turkey.

Yeah, can't we get back to the price of pineapples. How much are fresh pineapples in the UK these days?Playboy wrote:Are we really having a 440 discussion/argument over the international price of a Chinese Gooseberry ??!?
Food is so cheap here though- if you got a girlfriend to do the shopping at the market though. I mean look, it's the fugging promised land ;
Pork loin $4 a kilo.
Spuds $1 a kilo.
Cabbage 2000 riel a kilo.
Carrots 2000 riel a kilo.
Mussels only $1 a kilo.
Tilapia 10,000 riel a kilo.
Large bottle of gin 5 bucks.
Fug me, i went and bought 3 cans of Cambodia beer at the mom & pop store across the road the other day and was shocked when she handed me change from 6000 riel. I felt guilty....but not guilty enough to hand her back the change of course.
Where's SCC?

I was just back in Bristol and it was usually just shy of £4 a pint in the regular plastic pubs.
The food is a case of getting what you pay for. If you can live off of Gregg's bakery it might be cheap, but you'll have the hidden cost of requiring a mobility scooter in ten years time.
Although with the current exchange rate it did feel much cheaper than usual.

From what i've heard traditional pubs are dying off at an alarming rate in the UK as ;
a) People are staying in much much more these days and getting drink in as it's too expensive to drink out, or much cheaper from the supermarkets.
b) The independent pub owners are slaves to the breweries and struggle to make a decent living.
