Cost of Counterfeit Passports and Handguns
I recall one of the dailies (think it was PPP) looked into the gun trade some years ago. They found it difficult to find any at all for sale.
When I owned a farm in Anlong Veng, my manager tried to buy a rifle to use against wild pigs. He had to buy one in Thailand and it was archaic. Cost was $200.

Hell it used to be that price in 1815 when Napolion retreated from Wiganspitthedog wrote:What Wigan? Or gun prices in Cambodia?Mèo Đen wrote: I think you are about twenty odd years out of date...
I heard you can still buy a pint of hand pulled Tetley bitter in Wigan for tuppence ha'penny and still have change for a packet of pork scratching's?

It was a few years since and I was asking folk, some on here, where in PP I could buy a replacement kubaton. I was advised the most likely place was a specific stall in Central market.Mèo Đen wrote:I think you are about twenty odd years out of date, and the only market that supplied arms that I knew of back then was in Potchentong. $50 would have been about right in 1996. A friend of mine bought a Makarov back in 1999 for $200.Prices rose at that time with the new gun regulations. Now, obtaining weapons is generally much more expensive and convoluted, particularly as it is illegal for civilians to own arms.EdinWigan wrote:
Phnom Penh Market $50 for a Russian pistol or AK47 (derivitive) with a clip for either
The lady who ran the stall did not, nor had seen a a kubaton but did user me into the stall and, using her foot to open it, opened the bottom drawer of what I would describe and a broad multi shelf unit (rather like you would find in a gentlemen's outfitters to store shirts etc...)
On the left was a derivative of an AK47 and the right a Makarov pistol, both with a magazine containing ammo. Both were in what i would call a 'Field Found' state. Although, I did not pick up and examine either weapon, at a passing glance they looked genuine and no external signs of de-activation, although both showed signs of being in or on teh ground for some time.
In my experience, I would not like to have fired either weapon due to their 'Field Found' state, without a detailed examination but I also had not nor do have any reason to possess either weapon. Her price was $50 although her English was broken I am confident it was $50 not $500.
Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.

Tetley's, although sold nationwide, is a Yorkshire brew, not a Lancashire one. It is generally only stocked to sell to the tourists who turn up with deck chairs, seeking a 'Kiss Me Quick' hat and a stroll along our pier (these are now few and far between)

If you mean 15-20 years ago quite possible, but after the implementation of the gun regulations prices went up, and since the last regulations in 2004 possessing and disposing of firearms has become tricky. The women would be risking up to 2 years in prison and a 2 million Riel fine, for a risky $50 sale.
Article 20.
For those who equip, carry, possess, utilize, sell, purchase, lend, transfer, hire, fabricate, improvise and repair weapons, explosives and ammunition of any and all types shall be liable to imprisonment from 6 (six) months to 2 (two) years and a fine from 500.000 Riel (five hundred thousand Rile) to 2.000.000 Riel (two million Riel)

I don't in any way doubt the validity of what your saying and maybe I miss heard $50 for $500 but i don't think i did. So maybe they were de-activated but, if they were they were good and I wonder if there would be a market for such things in PP.
There was a round the table chat about where I could by a kubaton and Central Market, a specific stall was mentioned, by whom? I do not remember but it was outside Kandal House and the obvious follow up chat regarding the offer of two firearms.
but it was just a quick look, your knowledge is always sound and accurate, so now I am not 100% sure but I do know a little about firearms and they were not toys.

Central is, or was not a bad place to buy edged weapons and the like, and has quite a few stalls that sell them. I got a balisong there a few years ago. I have never seen any gun replicas here, but it doesn't mean that they are not around and most likely the ones she had were the genuine article. As I say things started to tighten up after 2004 and it may be that the couple of weapons she had that were previously unproblematic had now become a liability, and she was willing offload them cheaply, just to get them off her hands. Just speculation of course.EdinWigan wrote:I don't in any way doubt the validity of what your saying and maybe I miss heard $50 for $500 but i don't think i did. I think you have to go up country to even get one of those Lao black powder muskets these days.
They are found commonly all through the hill country all the way to Myanmar.
Work pretty well too. Most ppl double shot the load. very small calibre.

First things first...EdinWigan wrote:If it is Manchester a Russian pistol, with a full clip £100 to £200 dependant on condition, pre-usage and if it is re-activated. The much cheaper option is simply hire, with a two tier rate, if returned used or not.

Secondly, where did you pluck those figures from for buying a weapon in PP? Out your ass is where!
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

I don't know much about guns, but I thought clips were used in different guns than magazines?EdinWigan wrote:left hand side speed loaders, right mags. The first used too load the second.

No, clips, as shown, are used with a plastic or metal adaptor to speed the reloading of magazines, except the bottom one which will directly charge the cylinder of a revolver.Lucky Lucan wrote:I don't know much about guns, but I thought clips were used in different guns than magazines?EdinWigan wrote:left hand side speed loaders, right mags. With the last, think how much faster it is to put all (generally 6 ) rounds into the cylinder of a revolver on one go, as opposed to 6 one at a time
