I am not in Cambodia yet, It will be next year before I get there.
I am taking a classroom TEFL class in January in Eastern Europe and then I plan to come to Cambodia to test the waters.
I'm 49 and from the US. I haven't done as much with my life as someone else my age has accomplished. I've been Mexico, Canada and 48 of the 50 US states.
I want to do more. I'm too old to save the world. I don't care about doing anything other than making money to feed and house myself.

Don't bother to save the world, especially in Cambodia. That's the job of the various NGOs.

Just come to the land of wonder to enjoy. Unless you have a specific high in demand skill, making a living is rough. Teaching English in a bottom rung school can be a marginal existence in Cambodia.

Don't worry, be happy.

You really are a clueless fuck-wit. I pity anyone who takes "advice" from such an imbecile.newkidontheblock wrote: That's the job of the various NGOs.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

English teaching is a dead end job, find another profession if you can. You might want to consider doing a stint a year or 2 in South Korea or China, save up and enjoy your time in the Kingdom of Wonder. Unless you enjoy eating rice 3 times a day. Haha!

I disagree. The majority of expats that I know - who've actually ever had jobs - have started off teaching English and then advanced into other industries as their social network grows. Either that or they stay teachers and find more lucrative teaching positions when they've outgrown their current post.phat kunthea wrote:English teaching is a dead end job, find another profession if you can.
