i used to enjoy living in SR spent most of 2013 there (when i had a missus) but its boring and doesnt offer much to the young single lad tbh[/quote]
i know we are all different but i think Siem Reap has lots to offer the young single lad,if you are into kayaking, canoeing, boats, fishing, camping out and enjoying the peace and quite, also lots of interesting places to explore, you can ride your bike 20 mins from town in any direction and you are out in the rural areas.
most expats i know either work or have a business so that also keeps them busy.if you just want night life, than Siem Reap is not really the place.

isnt that what most young single lads want?tarariverboat wrote:if you just want night life, than Siem Reap is not really the place.
the bar/social scene has been shit past few years,
nice surrounding areas for sure, but not much different to anywhere else if you jump on your bike and go for a ride, the Kampot countryside is a personal favourite of mine
different strokes for different folks though
pics i took around Kampot Province:

I drink way too much when I do and even fully nude titty bars (of which there are none in this country to the best of my knowledge) don't fascinate me anymore unless they also serve food. I love eating breakfast in strip clubs. My point is that the "bad night scene" isn't a problem for me at all. It's best that I stay out of bars anyway. It just swells up my liver and clouds my mind. Slutty massage girls on the other hand are always a good thing.

Im sorry, I dont think he was talking about the young single lads in Minnesota. Single men who move to cambodia are not there for the Kayaking.
And SHV have poker
Brownexile... I thought you were now living in PP and working for a hostess bar?
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

Last time I was in Zanzibar there were four Indian guys in there monopolizing the music and playing, I don't know, Bollywood-type music. Not good.brownexile wrote:It's more of a consulting position...PSD_Kiwi wrote:Brownexile... I thought you were now living in PP and working for a hostess bar?

You showed great tolerance.
If you don't know where you're going, any road takes you there.
I haven't visited SR in over ten years, but I had many very pleasant times there. Plenty of things to do and see. Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom were superb, but I hear that site is way over-run by tourists nowadays. Really cute little kids who were pretty good with English would really pester you with their trinket selling, but they were so adorable you couldn't resist talking to them and buying something in the end.
Sihanoukville on the other hand can really grate on you after awhile.
That Kiwi named Brian who ran that bar and operated a charter boat was a real character. I really liked Hendrik and Mom, who operated a couple of hotels, they were very nice. I do recall some story, on this website maybe, where some guy (Wildturkey Man I think) got a real ass-kicking from Hendrik when the guy stiffed him over some unpaid bill. They also had a really great Thanksgiving feast, one of the best I ever had. Except for some damn loud Khmer wedding across the street that lasted for three days.
Does anyone know if Brian and Hendrik are still around. I suspect Brian has since expired (kind of a heavy drinker), but my guess is Hendrik is still around.
